George Soros is een van oorsprong Hongaarse zakenman die vanuit de Verenigde Staten (VS) opereert. Het vermogen van Soros wordt geschat op 24.4 miljard dollar, waardoor hij behoort tot de 30 rijkste mensen ter wereld. De miljardair staat bekend om zijn betrokkenheid bij politieke activiteiten. Zo heeft zijn organisatie Open Society Foundations naar schatting al miljarden dollars geschonken aan progressieve politieke partijen en groeperingen. Soros laat letterlijk wereldwijd een spoor van vernieling achter. Het is een typisch voorbeeld van een verveelde miljardair die met behulp van zijn fortuin de wereld naar zijn hand wil zetten en het gif genaamd progressivisme in onze maatschappijen loslaat.

Megaspeculant
Soros is het hoofd van een zogenaamd hedgefonds. Een hedgefonds is een particulier beleggingsfonds waaraan alleen zeer rijke individuen kunnen deelnemen. Hedgefondsen streven naar een hoog rendement door zeer risicovol te beleggen. Deze risico’s worden vervolgens op allerlei manieren ingedekt, bijvoorbeeld met waardepapieren en termijncontracten.

Hoewel Soros al vroeg actief was als belegger, sloeg hij zijn grote slag in 1992. Toen liet hij de Engelse nationale bank ‘ontploffen’, door tijdens een geldcrisis te speculeren met de pond. Deze actie heeft de Britse belastingbetaler maarliefst 3.4 miljard pond gekost. Soros zelf verdiende hier een miljard dollar aan.

Verscheidene politici van de Associatie van Zuidoost-Aziatische Naties (ASEAN) beschuldigen Soros ervan deel uit te maken van een complot dat doelbewust hun economieën kapot heeft gemaakt. Mahathir bin Mohamad, voormalig premier van Maleisië, beschuldigt Soros ervan de economie van zijn land vernietigd te hebben door middel van grootschalige valuta speculatie. Dit is precies dezelfde strategie die de miljardair toepaste begin jaren 90 in Londen.

Soros is niet vies van hypocrisie. Zo bekritiseert hij financieel speculeren omdat dit de economische ontwikkeling in derdewereldlanden tegen zou houden. Vreemd genoeg is dit precies de wijze waarop Soros te werk gaat. Ook was hij een fervent tegenstander van de voormalige Amerikaanse president George W. Bush en zijn beleid. Desalniettemin kocht Soros in 2007 een groot aantal aandelen van het Amerikaanse bedrijf Halliburton, dat enorm geprofiteerd heeft van de oorlog in Irak.



Linkse suikeroom
Soros steunt vele honderden linkse en progressieve organisaties. Er worden letterlijk miljarden dollars in diverse organisaties gepompt om overal ter wereld de progressieve sprookjeswereld in stand te houden. Omdat het onmogelijk is ze allemaal te behandelen, volgt hieronder een kort overzicht.

– National Council of La Raza: Een belangenorganisatie voor Amerikanen van Latijns-Amerikaanse afkomst. La Raza, dat ‘het ras’ betekent, strijdt voor het opengooien van de grenzen, amnestie voor illegale immigranten en minder deportaties van illegale- of criminele migranten.

– The Huffington Post: Een invloedrijke linkse krant.

– National Organization for Women: Een feministische organisatie die tevens opkomt voor de rechten van minderheden, homoseksuelen, biseksuelen en transgenders.

– Barack Obama: Soros heeft Obama gesteund ten tijde van zijn verkiezing als senator evenals president met de maximaal toegestane financiering.

Eind 2014 vonden er grootschalige rellen plaats in de Amerikaanse stad Ferguson, nadat de blanke agent Darren Wilson de zwarte man Michael Brown doodschoot tijdens een worsteling. Hoewel de protesten aanvankelijk spontaan leken, bleek dit achteraf toch niet zo te zijn. Zo zouden organisaties gefinancierd door Soros massa’s mensen op de been gebracht hebben. Bovendien werden de protesten gesteund door een landelijke (online) media campagne, op touw gezet door de miljardair. Soros gaf aan hiermee burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid te willen aanmoedigen.

Onruststoker
De multimiljardair heeft ook een rol gespeeld bij allerlei bedenkelijke campagnes buiten de VS:

– De Bulldozer Revolutie: In het jaar 2000 financierde Soros een volksopstand waarbij de voormalig Joegoslavische president Slobodan Milosevic werd afgezet. Dit maakte deel uit van de lastercampagne tegen Servië.

– De Rozenrevolutie: In 2003 financierde Soros wederom grootschalige volksopstanden, dit keer in Georgië. Hierbij werd president Eduard Shevardnadze afgezet. Het verhaal gaat dat Shevardnadze uit de gratie was geraakt. Vervolgens werd de pro-Westerse Mikhail Saakashvili geïnstalleerd. Sakaashvili lokte op zijn beurt weer een oorlog uit met Rusland in 2008.

– Turkije: Soros maakt zich al sinds 2003 sterk voor een Turks EU-lidmaatschap. Ook steunt hij de AKP, de partij van Erdogan.

Op 2 juni 2014 verklaarde Soros dat hij medeverantwoordelijk is voor het omverwerpen van de regering van Viktor Yanukovich in Oekraïne. Veel van de demonstranten tijdens de zogenaamde Euromaidan maakten deel uit van NGO’s die gefinancierd worden door de miljardair. Ook onderhoudt Soros banden met de nieuwe Oekraïense president Petro Poroshenko. Op de onderstaande foto is te zien hoe Poroshenko onderhandelt met medewerkers van de Open Society Foundations, inclusief Soros zelf.

George Soros is een gevaarlijk individu. Het is duidelijk dat de multimiljardair connecties heeft binnen de hoogste kringen van de wereldpolitiek. Soros gebruikt zijn fortuin om de wereld om te vormen naar progressief model. Landen die tegenstribbelen kunnen rekenen op grootschalige demonstraties, een aanval op hun economie of in het ergste geval een machtsovername.

Wie gezien heeft met welke professionele spontaniteit in verschillende Amerikaanse steden verontwaardigde menigten de straat op gingen om hun woede over de uitkomst van democratisch verlopen verkiezingen lucht te geven, zal allicht niet meer zo zeer in toeval geloven. In werkelijkheid had de ngo ‘Move on’ direct na Hillary Clintons nederlaag tot protest tegen de nieuw gekozen president Donald Trump opgeroepen.

En als je eenmaal weet wie ‘Move on’ financiert, dan valt alles op zijn plaats. Het is de miljardair George Soros, die naast de Saoedi’s de grootste donateur voor Clinton in de achterliggende verkiezingscampagne was en die reeds veel ervaring heeft wat de organisatie van oproer en revolutie aangaat. Zijn nauwe banden met ‘Move on’, maar ook met andere ngo’s, zoals ‘Woman Vote’ en ‘Sierra Club’, die eveneens tegen de gehate kandidaat Trump ageerden, werden op z’n laatst bekend door de e-mails die tussen Soros en de campagneleider van Clinton, John Podesta, over en weer gingen. Wikileaks bracht dat aan het licht.

Getrouw aan zijn beproefde tactiek, is voor Soros de verontwaardiging van de menigte slechts een deel van zijn operatie. Parallel aan de demonstraties riep de organisatie ‘Democracy Alliance’, een stichting van Soros met de verzekeringsmagnaat Peter Lewis, vooraanstaande Democratische politici bijeen voor een crisisberaad. Daarbij waren de fractieleider van de Democraten in het Huis van Afgevaardigden, Nancy Pelosi, en de invloedrijke senator Elizabeth Warren aanwezig. Op de agenda stond de planning van een ‘oorlog tegen Donald Trump vanaf dag één’, met als bedoeling om het 100-dagenplan van Trump zo mogelijk compleet te verijdelen.

Dat hij ooit nog eens tot over de beide ellebogen, niet alleen in de internationale beurzen, maar ook in de politiek betrokken zou zijn, hadden de ouders van de in 1930 in een Hongaars-Joodse familie geboren György Schwartz, zoals Soros eigenlijk heet, niet kunnen voorzien. Na zijn schooltijd in Boedapest studeerde hij in Londen filosofie bij Karl Popper, wiens idee van de ‘open samenleving’ zo’n indruk op hem achterliet, dat hij naar verluidt daarom de meest beruchte Soros-ngo ‘Open Society Foundation’ noemde.

In 1956 ging Soros naar Amerika, liet de filosofie voor wat ze was en had vanaf 1968 een hedgefonds in het belastingparadijs Curaçao. De Amerikaanse financiële toezichthouder had zodoende geen controle over zijn zaken en hij hoefde geen belasting te betalen. Ook toen hij later zijn zogeheten Quantum Funds oprichtte, bleef hij het systeem trouw: Hij koos voor de Nederlandse Antillen en de Maagdeneilanden.

Hoe Soros zijn miljarden verzamelde is niet in detail bekend. Een grote slag sloeg hij echter toen hij in 2007 in samenhang met de financiële crisis, met zijn Quantum Funds een geldschip van 2,9 miljard Amerikaanse dollar binnenhaalde. In het crisisjaar 2008, waarin menigeen geruïneerd werd, harkte hij nog eens 1,1 miljard binnen. Handel met voorkennis, waaraan hij in 2006 door een Franse rechtbank in laatste aanleg schuldig bevonden werd, zal daarbij nog een van de meer onschuldige wijzen zijn geweest waarop Soros te werk ging.

Vandaag de dag wordt Soros’ vermogen op 25 miljard dollar geschat. Een fundamenteel principe van Soros speelt echter in al zijn zaken een bepalende rol: de nabijheid tot de politiek. Niet alleen staat Soros in persoonlijk contact met leidende Amerikaanse politici, hij is ook vanzelfsprekend lid in de invloedrijke ‘Council of Foreign Relations’. Daar worden de grote beslissingen over de Amerikaanse politiek voor de lange termijn en over partijgrenzen heen voorbereid, dit is dan ook de natuurlijke leefomgeving voor een speculant van wereldformaat.

Hier bevindt zich ook het gewricht tussen de private geldmachine Soros en de politiek. Het gaat daarbij niet alleen om de mogelijkheid politieke keuzes te veroorzaken die een speculatie begunstigen, maar ook om een nieuw soort oorlogsvoering, die in de afgelopen drie decennia de wereld verandert heeft. We hebben het dan over de zogenaamde Kleurenrevoluties.

Te denken valt aan de Rozenrevolutie van 2003 in Georgië. Belangrijke actoren daarin waren de CIA, het Amerikaanse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, organisaties als het Open Society-netwerk van Soros en de man die door de staatsgreep aan de macht gebracht moest worden, de corrupte, in de VS opgeleide, met de NAVO en westerse geheime diensten vertrouwde Mikhail Saakasjvili. De ngo’s stookten protesten tegen de zittende president Eduard Sjevardnadze op, politie- en legereenheden werden geïnfiltreerd en omgekocht, de revolutie nam haar loop en de Amerikaanse marionet Saakasjvili kwam aan de macht. Zelfs de Wall Street Journal schreef dat de revolutie het werk was van “een reeks ngo’s [...], die door Amerikaanse en westerse stichtingen gefinancierd werden.” Dit is het handschrift van George Soros.

Het spreekt voor zich dat Georgië geen uniek geval was. Zo was er de Oranjerevolutie in Oekraïne. En in 2009 de staatsgreep tegen Manuel Zelaya in Honduras, in 2012 de staatsgreep tegen Fernando Lugo in Paraguay, en nog vers in de herinnering, 2016 de koude staatsgreep tegen Dilma Rousseff in Brazilië. En dat is geen uitputtende opsomming. Ook waren er nu en dan mislukte pogingen, zoals tegen Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua (waar ook Hans van Baalen als voorzitter van de Liberale Internationale een rol speelde). Ook in de Arabische Lente speelden ngo’s uit het Soros-netwerk een rol.

Oekraïne is echter wel zijn meesterwerk. Nergens is de lijst van de betrokken personen zo lang als in Oekraïne. Daar traden zowaar westerse politici op, onverhuld, figuranten uit diverse Europese landen en hoofdrolspelers als de Amerikaanse staatssecretaris Victoria Nuland. Die laatste bekende in een overwinningsroes tegenover de National Press Club: “Sedert de Oekraïne in 1991 onafhankelijk werd, hebben de Verenigde Staten meer dan vijf miljard dollar geïnvesteerd.”

Naast het geld dat de Amerikaanse overheid en diverse Europese overheden voor de Maidan uittrokken staan de miljoenen die Soros er in heeft gestopt. Alleen al de daggelden, die demonstranten betaald kregen om op het centrale plein in Kiev te blijven, vormen bij elkaar een fikse som. En dan hebben we het nog niet over de kosten voor smeergeld en propaganda gehad. Zonder had de Maidan-staatsgreep immers geen succes kunnen worden. Soros richtte dan ook nog tijdens het tumult in Kiev een ‘Ukraine Crisis Media Center’ in, waarmee diverse westerse dagbladen en publieke omroepen nauw samenwerkten. Men kan per slot van rekening de duiding van de actualiteiten niet aan het toeval overlaten.

Al met al heeft Soros een strategische slimheid die doet denken aan John D. Rockefeller. Deze had in de beginjaren van zijn oliebedrijf zo weinig scrupules in het kiezen van zijn methodes, dat men hem zelfs in het ‘Wilde Westen’ als crimineel beschouwde. Om zich in te dekken tegen de publieke opinie, engageerde Rockefeller zich op grote schaal bij sociale projecten. Aan de welwillende toekijker drong zich zo de indruk van een succesvolle zakenman en weldoener van de mensheid op. Iets dergelijks doet Soros.

George Soros: EU dreigt in 2017 in te storten – Poetin is de schuldige

In een gastbijdrage in de “Welt” waarschuwt Soros voor een zelfde soort ineenstorting van de Europese Unie als die van de Sovjet-Unie 25 jaar geleden. Soros waarschuwt vooral voor de invloed van Poetin en het toenemende gevaar van de patriottische partijen, die tot de ineenstorting van de EU zullen leiden.

[Opmerking: Laat één ding héél duidelijk zijn – de Europese Unie is niet Europa. Ik sta achter een Europa van de vaderlanders].

Hij ziet vooral in de laatste gebeurtenissen en statistieken een signaal dat de EU afstevent op de ondergang wanneer de staten-unie niet spoedig hervormd wordt: “Met het oog op de zwakke economische groei en de buiten controle geraakte vluchtelingencrisis staat de EU aan de rand van de ineenstorting”, aldus Soros in zijn bijdrage in de “Welt”.

Met aan het samenzweringstheoretische afgeleide frases probeert Soros de ondersteuning van Poetin voor Trump en andere patriottische krachten in Europa er met de haren bij te slepen. De beschuldigingen reiken van de gebruikelijke frases van de sociale media manipulatie tot hetgeen dat Poetin zich door revoluties – zoals in Georgië of de Oekraïne – bedreigd voelt.

Hongarije is van plan om nu na de overwinning van Donald Trump bij de Amerikaanse presidentsverkiezingen tegen groepen op te treden die door de linkse megadonor George Soros gefinancierd worden. De partij van de Hongaarse minister-president Viktor Orbán wil “alle ter beschikking staande instrumenten” ervoor gebruiken om NGO´s op de korrel te nemen die door Soros, een in Hongarije geboren investeerder die een van de grootste financiële bronnen van de Amerikaanse Democratische Partij is, gefinancierd worden.

De groepen van Soros “dienen globale kapitalisten en ondersteunen de politieke correctheid ten koste van nationale regeringen”, zei Szilard Nemeth, een van de vicevoorzitters van de regerende partij Fidesz dinsdag tegenover journalisten. Hij verwees daarbj naar de belangrijkste operatie van de financier, het Open Society Institute, dat zich inzet voor open grenzen en een linkse politiek.

Toen Trump op 8 november won van minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Hillary Clinton, zei Nemeth: “Ik denk dat er internationaal een gelegenheid is ontstaan.”

Orbán, die Trump bij zijn kandidatuur voor het Witte Huis ondersteunde, kondigde in het openbaar al zijn plannen aan voor hetgeen hij een “il-liberale staat” noemt. Hij heeft Soros in het verleden al aangevallen, vooral over diens organisaties.

Soros gaf tijdens de verkiezingsstrijd in de VS bijna € 10 miljoen aan een Super-PAC die Clinton ondersteunde – en schoof via zijn Open Society Institute, waarover hij volgens de Washington Post direct controle heeft, nog eens € 33 miljoen naar de verkiezingscampagneorganisatie van Clinton.

Trump zelf heeft Soros ervan beschuldigd dat hij deel uitmaakt van “een wereldwijde machtsstructuur, die verantwoordelijk is voor economische beslissingen die leidde tot het leegroven van de arbeidersklasse, het land van zijn welvaart beroofde en het geld in de zakken van een handvol grote concerns en politieke instellingen schoof.”

When the dust was cleared and the debris swept away, he stood revealed as Hillary Clinton’s most generous billionaire donor. Yet his name rarely surfaced during the presidential campaign—and that’s generally the way he likes it. Dark Money, Jane Mayer’s book about covert political funding, refers to the Koch brothers more than 300 times in its excoriation of the “radical right” but mentions progressive icon George Soros just six times; three are footnotes.

One of the planet’s richest men, his past marred with crimes and misdemeanors, the 86-year-old billionaire skates on. More than a decade ago, he moved his financial headquarters to Curaçao, a tax-free haven in the Caribbean designed for monied hypocrites who talk one game and play another. The place is not bulletproof; on occasion, Soros has been accused—and even convicted—of insider trading. A French court found him guilty of that crime and levied a fine of $2.3 million. In the parlance of the billionaires’ club, that was small change. Investigative journalists, a dwindling cadre, show little interest in him. They prefer to scrutinize safer, softer targets.

If they took even a cursory look, though, they would see that Soros’s global reach and influence far outstrip those of the Koch brothers or other liberal bogeymen—and that underlying it all is a vision both dystopian and opportunistic. “The main obstacle to a stable and just world order,” Soros has declared, “is the United States.” Ergo, that constitutional republic must be weakened and its allies degraded. The Sorosian world order—one of open borders and global governance, antithetical to the ideals and experience of the West—could then assume command.

George Soros has been an escape artist since his adolescence in Budapest, when Nazi occupiers gave him his first life lessons. Until then, the Schwartz family lived in a large house, located on an island in the Danube. György’s mother, Elizabeth, was the daughter of affluent silk merchants. His father, Tivadar, was a prominent lawyer and eccentric; in good weather, he commuted to his office by rowboat.

But all was not as it appeared, even before the predations of the Third Reich. Anti-Semitism ran deep in Eastern Europe, and Hungarian Jews lived on a knife blade, no matter how large their bank accounts. The secularist Tivadar never attended synagogue, but he had a devout belief in Esperanto, the artificial language that he and other disciples believed would eventually become the world’s tongue. The Tower of Babel would be razed, and nationalism would disappear, along with dialects, local attitudes, and national boundaries. But that world lay in the future. For the present, Jewish identity would have to be papered over.

Accordingly, the family changed its name to Soros—“to soar,” in Esperanto. In 1944, the personification of the Holocaust, Adolf Eichmann, came to German-occupied Hungary to administrate the Final Solution. But Tivadar had anticipated him. By then, he had purchased false identity documents for himself and the family. He bribed a government official to “adopt” György and testify to investigators that the boy was his Christian godson.

Now came the fulcrum of Soros’s life and career. The bureaucrat who housed teenage György was assigned the task of confiscating Jewish land and property. Acolyte in tow, he went from house to house, making inventories for Nazi officers. It’s unfair sweepingly to condemn those individuals, Jewish and Gentile, who, in order to survive, sometimes collaborated with evil. Still, most of those who did escape the Holocaust were tormented by pangs of remorse and survivor’s guilt.

Not Soros. In 1998, 60 Minutes profiled the man whose stock-market manipulations were making news. CBS interviewer Steve Kroft asked him about his wartime experiences:

• KROFT: You watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps.
  SOROS: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that’s when my character was made.
  KROFT: In what way?
  SOROS: That one should think ahead. One should understand and—and anticipate events and when—when one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I mean, it was a—a very personal experience of evil. . . .
  KROFT: I mean, that’s—that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?
  SOROS: Not—not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t—you don’t see the connection. But it was—it created no—no problem at all.
  KROFT: No feeling of guilt?
  SOROS: No.
  KROFT: For example that, “I’m Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.” None of that?
  SOROS: Well, of course I c— I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn’t be there, because that was—well, actually, in a funny way, it’s just like in markets—that if I weren’t there—of course, I wasn’t doing it, but somebody else would—would—would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the—whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the—I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

Adolf Eichmann offered an oddly similar rationale at his 1961 trial in Jerusalem. “Why me?” he demanded. “Why not the local policemen, thousands of them? They would have been shot if they had refused to round up the Jews for the death camps. Why not hang them for not wanting to be shot? Why me? Everybody killed the Jews.”

When the war ended, Hungary’s troubles continued. Soviet troops moved in, and the new rulers ruthlessly expunged the Germans—and their collaborators. Yet György was never punished, never even reprimanded for aiding the Nazis. Petr Cibulka, a onetime Czech dissident, told a British journalist that the only way for Soros to avoid reprisals “would be an agreement to co-operate with the GRU Soviet [Russian] military intelligence or perhaps also with the NKVD [later KGB].” Somehow, the 16-year-old Soros passed through “countless Red Army check points, without a passport that would be valid, without a Soviet approved permit to leave the country, without money and without any outside help. . . . His stay in the U.K. and his 1947 enrollment to the London School of Economics, and to be able financially to support himself during that time, with no mentioned help or financial backing, and to be able to graduate in 1952 at that young age, this all gives me chills.” In his own account of his days at the London School of Economics, Soros maintained that he had been a scholarship student.

The undergraduate, his name now Anglicized, was beguiled by the writings of Karl Popper (1902–94). The Viennese-born professor devoted his life and work to what he called the Open Society—a place free of such “tribal” affinities as religion, nationalism, and traditional economic formulas. But he also denounced, as a “monument of human smallness,” Plato’s concept of the philosopher king. “What a contrast,” Popper wrote, “between it and the simplicity of humaneness of Socrates, who warned the statesman against the danger of being dazzled by his own power, excellence, and wisdom. . . . What a decline from this world of irony and reason . . . down to Plato’s kingdom of the sage whose magical powers raise him high above ordinary men; although not quite high enough to forgo the use of lies, or to neglect the sorry trade of every shaman—the selling of spells . . . in exchange for power over his fellow-men.”

Was Soros beginning to confront the implications of these big ideas? No one knew—perhaps not even Soros himself, as he strove to find a place in postwar Britain. Alas for the new graduate, the financial world proved to be a closed society. No one seemed interested in his sheepskin or his multilingual abilities. Finally, he found work at the London-based merchant bank Singer and Friedlander because, he stated in a rare moment of self-deprecation, the managing director was a fellow Hungarian.

In 1930s Hollywood, when former Magyars like Alexander Korda, Peter Lorre, Leslie Howard, and Bela Lugosi reigned supreme, so many of their countrymen applied for positions that one film studio put up a sign: “It’s not enough to be Hungarian, you must also have talent.” So it proved in 1950s London, where the new hire could not rest on his Budapest connections. He had to demonstrate a gift for creating revenue—and he did. Within a few years, he had mastered the craft of arbitraging—making profits by trading different currencies. As befit a man with his background, he also promoted European stocks, then winning favor with U.S. institutional investors. Through Soros, they gained opportunities in the new Coal and Steel Community, soon to become the Common Market.

By 1959, Soros had relocated to New York City, the financial nexus of the West. He continued to be a salaried employee but a high-level one. He told colleagues that he planned to work for three more years—enough to accumulate a personal fortune of $500,000. He would then return to England to study philosophy. That event never occurred. His ego kept getting in the way. “I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance,” he later admitted. “To put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god.”

In the 1960s, the fancied god conceived his Theory of Reflexivity. Despite its Einsteinian overtones, the concept had a great deal of mumbo and not a little jumbo. Essentially, it stated that those who observe a phenomenon—like economics or politics—become a part of what they’re observing, and thus risk losing their objectivity. Economic arenas—Wall Street, for example—are particularly vulnerable to forces that have little to do with empirical evidence or historical precedent. Knowing this, the cunning witness can make a whacking good profit if he stays above the fray, the tipsters, and the “smart money.”

The recession of 1973 provided one of many examples. After years of wild, bullish ascents, the market seemed impervious to business cycles. Then it crashed. Investors waited for the predicted rebound—and were still waiting five years later. The resignation of Richard Nixon, the oil shortages, the seizing of American hostages in Iran, and the inept response of Jimmy Carter all put paid to the good times. And yet, a few speculators profited from these disasters; Soros was one of them.

Soros went on to enjoy many other triumphs, and none did more for his image than a killing made across the pond two decades later. He had gone out on his own by then. Aware that the British government was propping up the pound sterling, he and his associates acquired millions of pounds and then shorted the currency, betting that its worth would decrease. After some bad press and some bloody political infighting, Prime Minister John Major caved, withdrawing the pound from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM). The pound plummeted, and Soros pocketed more than $1 billion. Retirees on fixed incomes saw their pensions diminished and their savings wiped out. But the human consequences had no effect on Soros; indeed, he gained in stature. In high-finance circles, he was the “man who broke the Bank of England.”

The subprime mortgage crisis of the 2000s offered another opportunity. Houses had been overvalued and underfinanced. The day of reckoning occurred in 2008. It led to the downfall of Lehman Brothers, the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the near-collapse of the entire global financial system. Again, Soros came smiling through. “I’m having a very good crisis,” he told a reporter.

Soros had long since become wealthy beyond avarice. Two large alimonies (he married for a third time in 2013) and the education of his heirs (like Donald Trump, he has five children), plus lavish homes in Westchester and on Long Island, scarcely made a dent in the family fortune, which continued to grow. But along the way, it occurred to Soros, as it had to many another financial giant before him, that mere getting and spending were not enough for a man of his colossal self-measurement. He put his sons and other principals in charge of his companies and hedge funds. Thereafter, like the owner of beach frontage whose landscape is obstructed by trees, he devoted himself to cutting down whatever blocked his worldview.

Soros’s Open Society Foundations was clearly devoted to the eradication of national sovereignty.

His presidential candidate lost in 2016, but this setback likely won’t slow Soros down. His political activism portfolio is well diversified. Backing organizations dedicated to social agitation and change-for-change’s-sake, Soros has caused tsunamis of upheaval, in the United States and around the world.

A few cases in point: last August, DC Leaks, a group of adroit hackers, got into the Soros files and released them. Perhaps the most notorious of the disclosures concerned Soros’s Open Society Foundations, named in honor of Sir Karl Popper. Underneath its lofty rhetoric, the organization was clearly devoted to the eradication of national sovereignty. A key Open Society paper, hacked in its entirety, described the Syrian refugee crisis as an opportunity to “shape conversations about rethinking migrations governance.” Translation: use agitprop to flood Europe and the U.S. with evacuees (among them some probable terrorists); make the old borders and institutions irrelevant; and, in the process, create a world liberated from the restraints of constitutionalism, American exceptionalism, free-market capitalism, and other obsolete isms.

One of Soros’s long-standing targets is the State of Israel. Providing funding for groups devoted to BDS (boycott, disinvestment, sanctions) against the Jewish State is only part of the equation. According to DC Leaks, Soros gave more than $2 million to Adalah, an “independent human rights organization.” As a matter of policy, Adalah demands that governments sever diplomatic relations with the only democracy in the Middle East. Soros also donated more than $1 million to the Palestinian media center I’lam, which regularly accuses Israel of ethnic cleansing. Though the Open Society Foundations’ biases are obvious, its members prefer to work under deep cover, as one of the leaked documents describes. “For a variety of reasons, we wanted to construct a diversified portfolio of grants dealing with Israel and Palestine . . . as well as building a portfolio of Palestinian grants and in all cases to maintain a low profile and relative distance—particularly on the advocacy front.”

Print reporters were enlisted in the cause of propagating the Soros mind-set. As recorded by WikiLeaks, Soros operatives, determined to shape media coverage of events in Ukraine, were instructed to “select journalists from the five target countries (Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece) and offer them long stay reporting trips in Ukraine. Rather than specify what they should write about they should make suggestions for articles; we retain a veto on stories we think are counterproductive. Suggestion that we liaise directly with journalists to determine interest.”

In the United States, Soros bankrolls a broad range of political and cultural causes. One is to destabilize the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. In 2015, he dedicated $650,000 for the purpose of shaping Pope Francis’s U.S. visit, using left-leaning Catholic groups to promote gay marriage, abortion, and physician-assisted suicide. Leading the effort was Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta, a self-professed Catholic. Bill Donohue, outspoken president of the Catholic League, vainly called for Podesta’s dismissal. “He is fomenting revolution in the Catholic Church, creating mutiny and is totally unethical,” Donohue said. “He is the front man for George Soros to create a host of phony anti-Catholic groups. These are not just bad comments, as some have suggested. These words are orchestrated, calculated and designed to create fissures in the Catholic Church.”

Another Soros favorite is Black Lives Matter, the radical protest group dedicated to the proposition that police are inherently racist. Working the streets with incendiary rhetoric, at odds with the truth about black-on-black crime, BLM has helped foster “depolicing,” as Heather Mac Donald describes it, in high-crime urban areas. In 2015, after days of rioting in Baltimore in response to the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, an Open Society Foundations memo excitedly commented that “recent events offer a unique opportunity to accelerate the dismantling of structural inequality generated and maintained by local law enforcement and to engage residents who have historically been disenfranchised in Baltimore City in shaping and monitoring reform.” Three straight acquittals of police officers involved in the matter left the prosecution’s case in shreds but made no difference to the Open Society Foundations. It has donated at least $650,000 to Black Lives Matter and pledged more assistance to antipolice factions across the country. These activities prompted the father of one of the Dallas police officers killed during a Black Lives Matter protest to sue Soros (along with other individuals and groups) for inspiring a “war on police.”

Soros’s open-borders obsessions can be seen in the $2 million he gave to opponents of Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff Joe Arpaio, an outspoken critic of illegal immigration. The sheriff’s “influence on the national conversation about immigration has been poisonous,” said a Soros spokesman. Arpaio fired back, calling the billionaire a “far-left globalist” who was trying to “buy a local race.” The sheriff failed to ride in on Trump’s November wagon, though, and Soros enjoyed one of his few election-night victories. Soros also spent millions backing liberal-minded district attorneys—they all opposed jail time for nonviolent drug offenders—in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Illinois, New Mexico, and Texas. Some of these candidates won; most lost.

The emphasis on leniency for drug offenders is no accident. Two decades ago, Soros began an ardent campaign to decriminalize marijuana and other illegal drugs, which he promoted as an issue of fairness: Why should abusers be arrested and imprisoned when what they really needed was counseling and rehabilitation? To that end, he backed the Lindesmith Center, a “drug policy institute,” which served as Soros’s echo chamber on matters concerning proscribed substances. “I’m sure Lindesmith’s desire to take us into nihilism and chaos and to jam our hospital emergency rooms with more users has some useful purpose,” scoffed a spokesman for General Barry McCaffrey, during his tenure as Bill Clinton’s drug czar. Since then, Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington have all legalized marijuana, and Heads, a pro-drug magazine, enthusiastically dubbed Soros “Daddy Weedbucks.” But data are confirming what skeptics like McCaffrey had argued all along: that legalization serves as a forerunner to more drug use rather than less, more emergency-room visits rather than fewer, increased danger to the health of the young, and a consequent weakening of the social fabric.

As the postpresidential fever abates, Soros’s work carries on. In a New York City luxury hotel, Soros recently huddled with other devastated operatives in the so-called Democratic Alliance, including former House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, and Congressional Progressive Caucus cochairman Keith Ellison. According to Politico, they discussed strategies to combat President-elect Trump’s “terrifying assault on President’s Obama’s achievements.” Not all Democrats were pleased with the occasion. “The DA itself should be called into question,” said one attendee. “You can make a very good case it’s nothing more than a social club for a handful of wealthy white donors and labor union officials to drink wine and read memos, as the Democratic Party burns down around them.”

With the threat that a Trump presidency poses to their power, Soros and his allies figure to be even more voracious for influence—and secrecy. This is no time to let up. Yet Soros must occasionally think back to the professor whose writings he cherry-picked, using what was digestible and abandoning what could not be stomached. When he does, one tocsin is likely to cause discomfort even to this most insensitive of plutocrats: Popper’s reference to the figure “whose magical powers raise him high above ordinary men.” Popper warned about this type long before George Soros perverted Sir Karl’s teachings and crowned himself a philosopher king.

‘George Soros financiert club die actie voert tegen de Telegraaf’

De omstreden miljardair George Soros financiert een organisatie die adverteerders bij de Telegraaf probeert weg te houden. Dat is opmerkelijk omdat Soros’ Open Society Foundations ‘de waarden van democratie en open samenlevingen’ hoog in het vaandel heeft staan. Het gaat om de internationale actiegroep genaamd Avaaz, gespecialiseerd in het op grote schaal rondpompen van emails. Dat melden de collega’s van Quote vrijdag.

Sinds begin dit jaar wordt er op social media actie gevoerd tegen de krant omdat deze het probleem van kansloze asielzoekers een ‘asielplaag’ noemde. Avaaz heeft zich daar nu bij aangesloten. Mede-oprichter van Avaaz Eli Pariser is een goede bekende van Soros, hij zit in de raad van advies van de Amerikaanse tak van Soros’ Open Society Foundations.

Massive Movement To Overthrow George Soros Explodes In Macedonia

A major new initiative called Stop Operation Soros (SOS), a movement dedicated to stopping the evil machinations of Nazi collaborator billionaire George Soros, has taken off in Macedonia.

The SOS founders called on citizens around the world to “fight against one-mindedness in the civil sector, which is devised and led by George Soros.” The movement has been set up to expose the ‘subversive activities of all of George Soros’s organizations. Hungary has also taken to steps to clamp down on Soros funded organizations by banning them from the country.

  A new initiative, Stop Operation Soros (SOS), dedicated to countering the influence of American billionaire activist George Soros, has been launched in Macedonia.
  
  In a press conference on Tuesday, the founders of the group called on all “free-minded citizens,” regardless of ethnicity or religion, to join them in the “fight against one-mindedness in the civil sector, which is devised and led by George Soros,” the Vecer newspaper reported. The movement says it will first focus on uncovering ‘subversive’ activities by Soros-funded NGOs.
  
  According to Nikola Srbov, a columnist for pro-government news portal Kurir and co-founder of SOS, Soros-funded NGOs have monopolized civil society in Macedonia and used their position to suppress dissenting views.
  
  “We’ve witnessed the takeover of the entire civil sector and its abuse and instrumentalization to meet the goals of one political party. That is unacceptable and goes beyond the principles of civic organizing,” Srbov said at the press conference.
  
  “The Open Society Foundation, operating under the Soros umbrella, used its funding and personnel to support violent processes in Macedonia. It has monopolized the civil society sector, pushing outside any organization which disagrees with the Soros ideology,” he stated.
  
  Another co-founder, Cvetin Cilimanov, editor-in-chief of the state-run MIA news agency, accused Soros’s Open Society Foundations of undermining Macedonian sovereignty by working not only with the opposition center-left SDSM party, but also with outside interests. By cooperating with foreign embassies and organizations such as USAID, Cilimanov believes Soros-backed groups have interfered in the political process of Macedonia.
  
  “This is unacceptable and has largely contributed to a feeling in the public that the traditional relations of partnership Macedonia enjoyed with some countries are being undermined,” Cilimanov told journalists.
  
  A third founder of the initiative and editor-in-chief of the Republika news portal, Nenad Mircevski, declared that the group would work towards the “de-Soros-ization” of Macedonia, echoing a speech made by former prime minister and leader of the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party Nikola Gruevski in December. In the speech, Gruevski accused foreign powers and Soros-backed organizations of meddling in Macedonian politics.
  
  Opposition figures have expressed concern at the rhetoric used by Gruevski, fearing the start of a crackdown on dissent and advocacy groups.
  
  The Open Society Foundation (OSF) was set up by Hungarian-born Soros between the mid-1980s to early 1990s with the stated aim of helping former Eastern bloc countries transition from communism. However, aside from its support for progressive causes such as drug policy reform, the OSF has also been involved in political activities and Soros publically supported the violent overthrow of the legitimately-elected government in Ukraine during the ‘Euromaidan’ revolution. This has earned him the ire of Russian authorities, which in 2015 banned Soros and his foundations as a threat to national security.
  
  Soros and his foundations have come under scrutiny elsewhere as well. In an interview with the internet portal 888.hu in December, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that 2017 would bring about “the extrusion of George Soros and the forces symbolized by him.” Orban has accused Soros of undermining European borders and values by helping facilitate the flow of refugees and asylum seekers from the Middle East and elsewhere. During a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange also blasted the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, funded by Soros, for focusing “exclusively on negative stories about Russia and former Soviet states.”

Blunder AFM legt speculatie tegen ING van George Soros bloot
De AFM zette dinsdagavond per ongeluk het hele overzicht op de site van hedgefondsen die speculeren op koersdalingen van bepaalde bedrijven. Dat doen die fondsen door aandelen te lenen en die alvast te verkopen. Dit in de verwachting dat ze later - als de geleende aandelen weer ingeleverd moeten worden - een stuk goedkoper kunnen worden teruggekocht. Dat heet short gaan en kan grote winsten opleveren, als het aandeel inderdaad zakt.

En Soros is niet een man die achterover leunt maar die wel probeert bij te sturen naar een hem gunstige koersontwikkeling.

Als een hedgefonds met 0,5 procent of meer van alle aandelen van een bedrijf gokt op zo'n koersdaling, dan maakt de AFM dat openbaar in een register. De speculanten blijven daarom graag net onder die grens. Ze willen de concurrentie niet wijzer maken dan nodig.
Maar dinsdagavond was op de site van de AFM de complete lijst met shortposities zien. Woensdagochtend werd dat weer snel gecorrigeerd

Soros Leaks: zeker 4,9 miljoen euro naar Nederlandse organisaties

Dit weekend lekte een groot aantal documenten uit de Open Society Foundations, een aantal stichtingen van de Amerikaanse miljardair George Soros. Uit de documenten blijkt dat Soros tussen 2009 en 2014 minstens 4,9 miljoen euro aan Nederlandse stichtingen, goede doelen en denktanks gaf.

Daaronder zijn bijvoorbeeld ProDemos en KiesKompas (die in verkiezingstijd allebei een stemwijzer uitbrengen) en de pro-Europese studentenvereniging AEGEE, die in vrijwel alle Nederlandse studentensteden aanwezig is. Ook de 'ja'-campagne bij het Nederlandse referendum over Oekraïne in april werd deels door Soros gefinancierd.

Verder kiest Soros voor organisaties die actief zijn op het gebied van mensenrechten en anti-discriminatie. Zo ontving Amnesty International Netherlands ruim 250.000 dollar en kreeg het Meldpunt Discriminatie bijna 50.000 dollar toegekend. Ook de Anne Frank Stichting en verschillende moslimorganisaties in Amsterdam en Rotterdam ontvingen geld.

Het feit dat Soros met zijn Open Society Foundations een belangrijke donateur voor veel non-profit organisaties is, is niet nieuw. Ook van een aantal genoemde Nederlandse organisaties was al bekend dat ze geld hadden gehad van Soros. Door het hacken van de miljardair zijn wel de totale bedragen voor het eerst bekend.

Wie is George Soros?
De 86-jarige George Soros werd geboren in Hongarije, maar vertrok in 1956 naar de Verenigde Staten. Hij werd succesvol effectenhandelaar en had daarna verschillende hedgefondsen onder zijn hoede.

In 1992 werd hij zeer bekend door zijn speculaties tegen het Britse pond. Hij speculeerde met zoveel geld tegen de munt dat de Britse regering het pond moest devalueren. Soros hield er zo'n 1 miljard dollar aan over.

In 1988 handelde hij met voorkennis in aandelen van de Franse bank Société Générale. Daar werd Soros in 2005 voor veroordeeld door het Franse gerechtshof. Hij moest een boete van 2,2 miljoen euro betalen.

De miljardair voelt zich verbonden met zijn joodse achtergrond. Ook staat hij bekend als groot filantroop. Bij het doneren via zijn Open Society Foundations laat hij zich leiden door zijn ideologie. Soros positioneert zich als pro-Europa, pro-democratie en anti-corruptie. Hij is tegen verregaande globalisering. In de Verenigde Staten wordt zijn gedachtegoed beschouwd als 'links'. Soros onderhoudt tevens warme banden met de Democratische partij.

Russische hackers
Het is niet bekend wie er achter het lekken van de documenten zit. Er zou een verband zijn met de recent opgedoken documenten van de Democratische partij, die ertoe leidden dat de voorzitter opstapte. Dat zou wijzen op betrokkenheid van Russische hackers, schrijft Bloomberg.
