Erg groot.

New James Bond to be played by Muslim woman in a burka

The name’s Bond, Jameela Bond.

James Bond is to be replaced by a burka-wearing Muslim woman as producers look to reflect modern Britain.

The switch to Jameela Bond is perfect for a top-secret agent because mad criminals trying to take over the world would never know her identity.
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is now scouring talent agencies looking for an athletic woman in a burka who can drive fast cars and flirt with Miss Moneypenny.
The news comes as actor Tom Hardy is being tipped elsewhere for the coveted James Bond role when Daniel Craig hangs up his pistol.

While most people have welcomed the change to a Muslim woman, agreeing it’s a perfect reflection of Britain’s diversity, some are not so pleased.
Nearly 50 Daily Mail readers were hospitalised this morning after choking on their cornflakes.
And Boris Johnson has claimed the move will make the film franchise “a laughing-stock”.

Suffolk film critic Lorraine Fisher, 34, said the switch to Jameela Bond would transform the character originally created by Ian Fleming.
“There’s been arguments that James Bond should be played by a black man, a Muslim or woman.
“Nobody saw this one coming, but making the agent a Muslim woman in a burka is brilliant.”

Bosses hope to sign up the new Jameela Bond soon.

And they will then begin work on the next film, a remake of the classic For Your Eyes Only.

Staat in hun geschriften.
"Other footage recovered by the police showed Baig sexually abusing a dog.".
Husband, 37, who was jailed for three years for making wife film him having sex with 29 CHICKENS can still keep hens as pets due to legal technicality

A sick husband who got his wife to film him having sex with 29 chickens can still keep hens as pets due to a legal technicality.

Pervert Rehan Baig, 37, was jailed for three years this week after killing the poultry during intercourse with several white and brown chickens.

As part of his sentence, the judge had banned Baig, from Bradford, West Yorks, from keeping animals for life but has been forced to make a U-turn.

Despite the 'depraved' and 'perverted' acts against the chickens, Baig wasn't charged with any cruelty offences and the lifetime livestock ban has been lifted.

Judge Richard Mansell QC said: 'I have no power to prohibit him from keeping any animal.'

However, he suggested that the prosecution might want to consult the RSPCA and raise the matter before the city's magistrates to see if an order could be made because of the cruelty to the chickens and the dog.

Baig was jailed at Bradford Crown Court after hoarding sick home movies of him violating the birds, along with horrific images of trafficked young children being sexually abused.

Other footage recovered by the police showed Baig sexually abusing a dog.

Baig killed the chickens with his perverted and despicable acts, said prosecutor Abigail Langford.

Baig was filmed 29 times by his wife, Haleema Baig, 38, in the basement at their home having sex with a number of chickens on different occasions.

BREAKING: 'HIJACK' ATTEMPTS ON SHIP MOORED OFF ISLE OF WIGHT

Afbeelding

A major incident is underway in the sea off Isle of Wight this afternoon (Sunday), with reports of an attempted hijacking of a ship.

Isle of Wight Radio has been informed that the incident is focused around a crude oil tanker - the Nave Andromeda.

The Coastguard helicopter can currently be seen circling above the vessel.

The Liberian registered vessel measures 228 metres by 32 metres, and weighs more than 42,000 tons.

It's understood that an exclusion zone of three miles is currently in place around the vessel.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

'We are aware and dealing with an ongoing incident on board a vessel which is situated south of the Isle of Wight.'

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said:

“We are currently assisting Hampshire Constabulary with an incident on board a vessel situated off the Isle of Wight.

“The search and rescue helicopters from Lee on Solent and Lydd are in attendance.”

Isle of Wight Radio understands the ship was supposed to dock in Southampton this morning, but was refused entry.

It gave out a mayday at about 9am.

Government officials are now involved.
update.
*Isle of Wight Radio has been told there are seven stowaways on board the vessel.

Armed units are currently setting up base at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, Isle of Wight Radio understands.

Seven stowaways - thought to be from Nigeria - are onboard, Richard Meade, editor of shipping news journal Lloyd's List, told Sky News.

Crew members had found them and tried to lock them in a cabin but the situation became violent and the security alarm was raised, Mr Meade said.

He added that the group are believed to have entered the vessel - named the Nave Andromeda - through the rudder trunk.

Sky's home affairs correspondent Mark White said at least half a dozen stowaways were discovered at some point today and that crew were sheltering at secure points on the ship.

Bembridge RNLI has been deployed For medical assistance should it be required.

The lifeboat is hanging back awaiting further instructions, Isle of Wight Radio has been told.
De Daily mail weet te vermelden.
Reports have claimed that the captain of the Nave Andromeda - believed to be carrying 42,000 tons of crude oil with around 15 to 20 crew on board - put out a 'desperate' call for rescue because he 'feared for his life' as stowaways smashed glass on board and even made threats to kill.

The source said: 'The captain clearly stated he feared for their lives and needed urgent assistance, they needed rescuing... It was desperation, you could hear the fear in his voice.'

A source close to the shipping company said that crew had been aware of stowaways on board for some time, but that they had turned violent as the vessel approached Britain. The crew then retreated to the ship's secure citadel, where attackers are unable to enter, the source added.

Reports have indicated that seven stowaways may have boarded in Nigeria, though this remains unconfirmed

Islamic preacher Khandaker Rahman on trial for mosque rape

An Islamic preacher accused of raping a young girl was arrested 15 years later after she identified him on YouTube, a court heard.

The woman only knew her alleged attacker as "The Imam" before going on the internet to find Khandaker Rahman, 64, Swansea Crown Court heard.
The alleged victim said she was left feeling guilty and wanted closure after being raped in a mosque in south Wales.

Mr Rahman, of Cwmdu, Swansea, denies rape and two sexual assaults.

The woman saw a "side profile" picture of him on YouTube and took a screenshot to police, the court heard.

'Helped move books'

Prosecutor John Hipkin told the jury how the "highly respected" Muslim leader raped the girl during religious lessons.
Mr Hipkin said: "He agreed to let her leave early if she helped him move some books from the library upstairs.
"On the way there he pushed her into a washroom and she fell on to the floor banging her head.
"The next thing she remembers is Rahman on top of her."
The court was told she fled the mosque and got into her father's car which was parked outside.
She stopped going to the mosque after Mr Rahman assaulted her on two separate occasions, the jury was told.

The trial continues.

Een eenmalig incident. Heeft niks te maken met Islam. De arme man heeft geestelijke klachten .
Anti-terror officers are called in after man knifes Marks & Spencer worker in her 40s and shopper in her 60s as police praise passers-by who grabbed attacker before he could stab again

Anti-terror police were today called in after a man stabbed a Marks & Spencer worker and a shopper just hours after all 'non-essential' stores reopened in England.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attack in Burnley at around 9.30am and remains in custody, Lancashire Police said.

The two women, a Marks & Spencer employee in her 40s and a shopper in her 60s, were rushed to hospital with serious knife injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Officers said the stabbing was not being treated as a terrorist incident, although counter-terror detectives were leading the investigation due to comments made at the scene.

A force spokesperson also praised members of the public who detained the suspect at the scene for their 'brave actions'.

The knife attack came as shoppers flocked back to the High Street after the national coronavirus lockdown was lifted and all shops reopened on 'Wild Wednesday.'

Footage from the scene captured a man in a face mask being detained by officers outside the Marks & Spencer store this morning.

Afbeelding

Witnesses claimed one of the women was stabbed in the neck during the attack, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Lancashire Police said a knife was recovered from the scene following what is believed to be an 'isolated incident.'

Superintendent Stasia Osiowy, of Lancashire Police, today thanked passersby who 'acted very quickly this morning in order to detain the attacker'.

She added: 'Without their brave actions this incident, while serious, could have been so much worse.

'At this time we are keeping an open mind as to motivation but what I can say is that we are considering the mental health background of the man we have arrested.'

An M&S spokesperson said: 'We are incredibly grateful for the emergency services that responded to this incident and our M&S colleague and the member of the public who were injured are now in good care.

'We are also supporting the police with their investigation. The store is currently closed and our focus is on ensuring that our colleagues in Burnley receive all the support they need.'

One man on social media claimed to be a relative of the alleged attacker, and said the suspect has struggled with mental health issues for at least 10 years.

He added '[the suspect] may have relapsed or stopped taking his medication', while others claimed the man had been 'ignored and neglected' by authorities 'for a long time.'

Bin Laden’s right-hand man back walking the streets of Britain after being released from US prison because he’s too FAT

Adel Abdel-Bary, 60, who plotted blasts that killed more than 200, won early “mercy” release by moaning that his life was at risk from Covid due to his weight.

The convicted terrorist, known as Bin Laden’s spokesman in Europe, was freed in New Jersey on Tuesday and flew into the UK yesterday.

The dad of six, whose son is also an IS jihadi, has been reunited with wife Ragaa, 59, who lives in a £1million council flat in Maida Vale, North West London.

His return could not be blocked because he was granted asylum in Britain in 1997 — and officials cannot send him back to Egypt, where he was born and raised, because he could be at risk of death or torture.

A security source said last night: “His return remains a huge headache for the Home Secretary. She is intent on ridding the country of threats, but here’s a notorious terrorist dumped right on her doorstep.”

Abdel-Bary fled Egypt for Britain in 1991. In 1998, two al-Qaeda truck bombs killed 224 at US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Prosecutors said he was a senior member of a terror cell and had claimed responsibility for the bombings.
He was finally extradited to the US in 2012 and got 25 years after admitting his role.

Covid: London Mosque donates hot meals to local hospital staff as ‘token of thanks’

A mosque in London has pledged to deliver hot meals to local hospital staff every Friday as a “token of thanks”.

East London Mosque, along with the London Muslim Centre, delivered more than 100 hot meals to staff at the Royal London Hospital on Friday for the first time.

The mosque, which is also providing a food bank delivery service for the local community, said the meals would help to pay tribute to the “hard work and bravery” of healthcare workers during the pandemic.
“In these difficult times, our NHS has been at the forefront of saving the lives of so many people,” Dilowar Khan, director of the East London Mosque Trust, said.
“We commend them for their hard work and bravery, setting aside their own families to help others, and it’s with this spirit of gratitude that we wanted to show a small token of thanks to our long standing neighbours, the Royal London Hospital.”

The mosque is temporarily closed, despite the Government allowing places of worship to remain open under coronavirus restrictions, due to high levels of Covid-19 in the local area.

Heathrow’s Muslim taxi drivers forced to pray at bus stop

Afbeelding

Taxi drivers working at London Heathrow say they feel “humiliated” having spent the past year praying at a bus stop in a car park because the airport closed its prayer rooms.
The facilities were shut due to Covid restrictions but in recent weeks complaints escalated over a perceived deterioration in cleanliness and safety.

“We’re not asking for them to roll the red carpet out for us,” private hire driver Zamir Dreni told the Britain-based Islam Channel.
“We’re asking for the bare basics – we feel degraded.

Heathrow’s actions were condemned by the App Drivers and Couriers Union.
“People are praying in close proximity to moving traffic. It becomes a real risk for them,” said ADCU general secretary James Farrar.
“If you are a devout Muslim, you must pray and too often it is inside that car park.”
The trade union said drivers had reported a lack of soap and water in the toilets in recent weeks, a development Mr Farrar called “disgusting”.
He urged Heathrow to provide “safe, sanitary and dignified working conditions”, while on Twitter his union questioned how seriously the airport takes issues affecting ethnic minorities.

In response, Heathrow told The National it is “committed” to improving the facilities for drivers and maintained that prayer rooms would be reopened when it was safe to do so.
Yet Britain’s biggest airport said it was unable to provide alternative facilities in the car park for health and safety reasons.
It also said it expected those using existing spaces to keep them “in good condition”.

‘We’re losing hope’: The refugees waiting for the homes they were promised in Britain

Families who fled their countries were told they would be given a new life in Britain only for resettlement to stop for the pandemic. A year on, they still have no news of their future. Instead, reports May Bulman, they’re forced to struggle on in limbo

Muhannad waits with his wife and their two children for the life they have been promised – one not scarred by war and riven by crisis in which his son and daughter can go to school and grow up in safety.

Afbeelding

For this family, who fled Syria in 2014, it’s a life that should be theirs by now. They were given a date for their flight from their home in Lebanon and told they would be living in Edinburgh. Muhannad left his job and told the authorities they were leaving. They sold all their furniture and eagerly waited departure.

But days before they had been due to leave last March, the Home Office paused its refugee resettlement scheme. In the 10 months since, the family has not been given any indication as to when they will be transferred to Britain.

In that time, Beirut has been torn apart – by an explosion, an economic crisis and coronavirus. The family are afraid to leave home because they are now undocumented. The children cannot start school and money is hard to come by.

So for now, in a bare, one-bedroom flat with cracks running up the walls, Muhannad, his wife and two children can do nothing but wait as they fall deeper into poverty by the day.

He says: “We had some money saved from when I sold our furniture but it’s running out. I haven’t been able to pay the rent for two months.”

Had things gone to plan, Muhannad’s daughter, Heba, would have entered the Scottish school system in September. His son, Omar, would be in nursery. Instead, the children spend their days waiting listlessly, trapped within the decaying walls.

He says: “My children haven’t been outside in six months. They should be in school. We are illegal here. I cannot work and I avoid going out except to buy the little food we can afford.”

The 36-year-old, an electrician, had been working prior to March last year, had researched Edinburgh extensively.

He says: “It was a dream to leave this swamp in Lebanon. I have read about Edinburgh: the ancient monuments, the festivals and Edinburgh Castle. I was counting down the days, the hours.

“But now we have no idea when we will get out. Life is getting harder each day but the worst part is the uncertainty. We are just waiting for the phone call to say we can finally move to Britain.”

His family is among thousands who were told prior to the pandemic that they had been accepted for resettlement in Britain and that they would be travelling soon – sometimes within days or weeks – but whose transfer has been put on hold.

As part of The Independent’s Supporter Programme, we spoke to refugees who say their lives have been left in limbo for almost a year due to the delay in restarting resettlement programmes. Authorities across Britain are feeling the strain too because of the uncertainty, which they warn could affect services available for years to come.

The pause on resettlement as Britain went into lockdown in March meant that the government missed its target to take 20,000 Syrian refugees by May under the Vulnerable Persons’ Resettlement Scheme, VPRS, which had been introduced by David Cameron in 2015 as the Syrian civil war raged.

Other countries such as the US, France and Spain, also halted their programmes but managed to restart in the summer as restrictions eased. The UK did not.

Following a barrage of criticism, the Home Office announced in November that it would “shortly be restarting resettlement” and that the remaining 232 places under the scheme would be filled “early in the new year”.

A number of Syrian refugee families whose flights were cancelled have since been brought to the UK. On 8 February, immigration minister Chris Philp told the House of Commons that the Home Office would be “completing the 20,000 people under the VPRS in the coming weeks”.

But the number of refugees who were promised resettlement is far higher than 232. The Independent understands that about 600 Syrian refugees due to be resettled in Britain had their travel cancelled due to the pandemic. It is unclear whether the Home Office still plans to resettle those who remain.

The government had planned to start the scheme in spring last year and intended to resettle 5,000 people by now.

However, none of the 3,477 accepted under the scheme has received any update from the government as to when – or whether – they will be coming.

Ministers have provided no clarity on when this scheme will start or whether it will start at all. The Home Office announced last week that it plans to carry out a review of safe and legal routes to the UK, including the future approach to resettlement – raising concerns among councils and NGOs that the new programme won’t start until the review is completed, which is likely to take months.

The department told The Independent it would be rolling out a new global resettlement scheme “in future”, but gave no indication as to when. In the meantime, like Muhannad, these thousands of families can do nothing but wait.

There was a house in Newcastle upon Tyne waiting for Tariq and his family. It was fully furnished, freshly carpeted and ready for their arrival. His parents would live nearby in sheltered housing. Tariq’s eight-year-old daughter, who has Down’s syndrome, would be able to have urgent surgery on her heart.

But after their flight was cancelled, Tariq barely sleeps. He lies awake in the cramped, one-bedroom apartment his family of seven now has to call home. His wife, young children and elderly parents sleep uncomfortably on the carpet around him.

They too had sold their furniture and agreed to move out of their old flat in Al Beqaa, 34 miles east of Beirut. The landlord still required them to vacate the property as planned and they moved to the capital in the hope that their flight would be rescheduled soon. The tiny apartment they are now in is all they could afford and they don’t have the money to pay for his daughter’s heart procedure in Lebanon.

In December, nine months after their flight had been scheduled, they had still heard nothing. Tariq’s solicitor here wrote to the Home Office requesting that it expedite the family’s resettlement on the basis of their vulnerabilities. The Home Office responded on 31 December stating that the place was no longer available and that the department was “not currently making arrangements” for the family’s resettlement.

The Home Office said the family was still eligible for resettlement but that ministers were “not yet clear” on the position beyond VPRS.

Tariq, who was held prisoner in Syria before the family fled in 2011, says: “It is not a good situation. If we didn’t plan to leave the country, if we didn’t have the promise we were going, we might be in a better position.

“But they actually told us we were going to leave. We sold everything, everything we had. We were ready to go. It’s put us in a horrible situation. We are in between two things, not really in either. We’re losing hope.”

The 33-year-old, a decorator, has struggled to find constant work in Lebanon, particularly since the pandemic struck. He describes the family’s current living conditions as a “nightmare”.

“We have an elderly man who is unwell and cannot walk properly and a daughter who is very sick,” he says. “And we’re on top of each other in one room. We aren’t mentally well. We don’t have a life, we don’t have rights. We just need to get out.”

In Newcastle, authorities are also frustrated. The council was “ready to accommodate” the family, according to Karen Kilgour, in charge of health and social care, but was told by the Home Office not to hold the property once March’s flight had been cancelled.

Now, she says, it needs a clear path forward for helping refugees. “We are in the middle of the worst public health emergency for a century. We understand getting on top of that remains the government’s top priority. However, we would urge them to provide clarity on the future of the resettlement scheme so we can continue to provide sanctuary to those in dire need.”

The resettlement process is almost entirely reliant on local authorities for accommodation and support for refugees. About 300 councils have housed refugees since 2015 but the lack of clarity in the middle of a pandemic makes it tough for those struggling for money to keep resources allocated to a programme whose future is far from clear.

Kevin Bonavia, the councillor responsible for refugee resettlement in Lewisham, south-east London, says: “There’s no good reason for delay.” The borough has taken 116 refugees under VPRS since February 2017 and had been due to take 23 more in March and April.

Like Newcastle, Lewisham was told not to hold on to these homes but was asked at the start of this month to find accommodation for some of these families. The council had wanted to take three or four families a month under the new scheme but has been unable to establish from the Home Office when these homes will be needed. The lack of planning is causing concern.

Mr Bonavia says: “I know there’s a pandemic going on but at least give us a timetable and terms of reference. Timing matters – if we have no idea, we can’t plan. The delays increase risk and risk means death. You’ve got councils willing to make safe homes for these people. It only takes the Home Office to act as a link between the two – and they can do that if they choose to.”

Humanitarian groups, too, are finding the lack of answers frustrating. They support the families when they arrive, but can’t work out what will be required. They also worry for those like the families of Tariq and Muhannad.

Stephen Hale, of Refugee Action, which offers support, says: “Thousands of people promised refuge in the UK languish in camps and war zones.” He calls the delay in a ministerial decision on restarting resettlement “appalling”. Enver Solomon, of the Refugee Council, warns the “failure to act decisively serves no one”.

The UNHCR, which works in partnership with the Home Office to run our refugee resettlement, has also expressed concern about the delays. An estimated 1.44 million refugees across the globe are in urgent need of resettlement but only 22,770 were resettled globally through the UNHCR last year – the lowest numbers for the organisation in almost two decades at a time when their needs are acute and rising.

Katrin Hermanek, of Border Free, a Swiss NGO based in Lebanon, says: “Some are scared they might not be able to travel at all.” She has been supporting a number of the refugee families, including those of Muhannad and Tariq. She says the situation is becoming increasingly urgent.

None of the children in the families Hermanek supports is in school, with a reluctance to make any long-term commitment to the Syrian children in the knowledge that they may soon be leaving the country. Many households are struggling to afford nutrition and rent, while medication – even for urgent cases – is either too expensive or unavailable. As the rainy season took hold in Lebanon, many struggled without warm clothes or heaters. To make matters worse, as the economic pressures intensify across the country, discrimination against Syrian refugees is increasing.

Ms Hermanek says: “It has been almost a year during which the families were left in a state of uncertainty. They have not been informed about their situation and what is going to happen for months, which has led to mounting psychological stress in many cases. They are unable to settle in Lebanon but also unable to make any travel preparations, leaving them completely powerless and dependent on the decisions of the UK Home Office, which is moving forward really slowly.

Thomas McGee, a former humanitarian worker who worked in the Middle East for 10 years, is in touch with a number of refugee families from his days working in Turkey and Iraq – three of whom have been accepted for resettlement to the UK but have not yet received travel dates. They are likely to have been accepted under the UKRS, the new scheme for which the Home Office has provided no details yet.

The lack of clarity around when they will travel – or whether they will still be going to Britain at all – is becoming increasingly draining for the families, and Mr McGee is concerned that if this state of paralysis continues, refugees will turn to more dangerous routes to reach security and safety.

He says: “A lot of the anxieties for these families seems to be around, ‘Is it us, or is everyone affected?’ They don’t realise it’s a general mess, rather than their case being thrown out and nobody telling them. I’ve known of families in the past who have ended up going with smugglers when their resettlement has been delayed for whatever reason. In some cases now you’re going to have families who are actually giving up hope that they’re going to be transferred to the UK and turning to unauthorised routes.”

Vulnerable people are pushed into the hands of traffickers and exploited

Tariq’s lawyer, Isabella Kirwan of Duncan Lewis Solicitors, who is also representing a number of other refugee families in Lebanon, says most of her clients are living in situations of, “extreme destitution, struggling to survive each day”.

She says: “They have legitimate reasons as to why their cases are extremely urgent. Many have life-threatening medical conditions. Many are at risk of being forcibly sent back to Syria.

“The UK resettlement scheme needs to work effectively and expeditiously, so it can play an important role in preventing families be forced to make perilous journeys. On these journeys, vulnerable people are pushed into the hands of traffickers and are exploited.”

There is also concern among communities in the UK that support refugees that the lack of a clear national strategy for resettlement – as there was in 2015 – is leading to a decline in willingness among the general public to help people seeking sanctuary.

Dr Kate Brown, co-director of Reset, which works in community sponsorship – says many groups are finding the lack of detail “disheartening and confusing”.

“There are practical concerns, like how they can ask for donations when there’s no public information about a future resettlement scheme,” she says. “But there’s also a more fundamental issue, which is that communities welcoming refugees need to see that their effort locally is part of an ambitious effort from central government too.”

Over the past year, the government has repeatedly cited its “world leading” resettlement schemes but for Muhannad, Tariq and thousands of others with no sign of this sanctuary on the horizon, the wait goes on, as they cling to their dreams of the better life they have been promised.

Protest at Yorkshire school after pictures of Prophet Muhammad shown - police at gates

FURIOUS parents have gathered outside a school in Batley, Yorkshire to protest against a teacher who allegedly showed derogatory caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

Batley Grammar School delayed starting school this morning until 10am over what it termed a "disturbance".

A message circulating on social media on Wednesday evening urged to people to gather outside the school and demand the resignation of the teacher allegedly involved.

Parents outside the school gates chanted in protest, while one pupil gave a speech to the crowd.

Local police cordoned off nearby Carlinghow Hill with parents gathering outside the school.

Police officers were called to the scene, YorkshireLive reported.

Despite the start of school being delayed until 10am, Yorkshire Live reported at 10.33am there were 20-30 pupils gathering outside the gates to the school.

The road was still closed in both directions as crowds remain at the scene.

Imam Mohammed Amin Pandor claimed the teacher in question has been "suspended" by the school after showing the caricatures. The school has yet to confirm this.

He said in a statement: "What has happened at the school, we are appalled. What has happened is totally unacceptable.

"We have made sure the school understands that. The school is going to issue an apology.

"All the resources that were used have been pulled out. The teacher has been suspended.

"We have asked for an investigation and we have asked that some of us get on to the investigation panel.

"We are going to work with the school to make sure that in the future things like that don't happen."

People also took to social media to describe the scene outside the school.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Outrageous scenes outside Batley Grammar School as parents descend on the school gates protesting a teacher producing a ‘derogatory caricature’ of their prophet.

"Its now a regular occurrence in England."

Another tweeted: "Extra police resources called to Batley Grammar School as tensions rise at a protest at the school gates.

"Elders have been called in to calm tensions."

Batley Grammar School Headteacher Gary Kibble has apologised for the "inappropriate" resource used in the lesson.

He said in a statement: "The school would like to thank the parents who contacted us on March 22 highlighting concerns with a resource used in an RS lesson that day.

"Upon investigation, it was clear that the resource used in the lesson was completely inappropriate and had the capacity to cause great offence to members of our school community for which we would like to offer a sincere and full apology."

In an email to parents, Mr Kibble said the school has taken immediate action to investigate the matter further.

This includes the removal of the resource from materials, the suspension of that lesson from the scheme of work and as an additional precaution, a formal review of the RS curriculum will be undertaken to ensure no other resources or statement is inappropriate.

The email concludes: "The school is investigating the matter using formal processes and we are grateful for the support of the Local Authority."

The school has sent out a text message to parents to advise them of the delayed start to the day for pupils.

It says: "Due to the disturbance outside of school if your child has not already set off please keep them at home as school will be starting at 10am."

Batley Grammar School.

Volgens de rector waren de cartoons "completely inappropriate and had the capacity to cause great offence to members of our school community, for which we would like to offer a sincere and full apology."

Parents at Batley Grammar School say pupils were shown cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed as part of the school's curriculum.

One parent told MailOnline that their teenage daughter was shown the same controversial images in a PowerPoint presentation during a Religious Education lesson two years ago.

In that instance, they said, the lesson was taken by another teacher to the one suspended by the school after threats and protests by angry Muslims.

During that lesson two pupils were warned beforehand that the content would include caricatures of the Prophet and they were given the opportunity to leave the classroom if they were likely to be offended.

Suggesting that blame should be aimed at the school and its Headteacher Gary Kibble and not the suspended RE teacher, the parent said: 'My daughter said she was saw image two years ago during her RE lesson.

'No one complained and students who might have been offended were given the chance to leave the room.'

'The teacher who is now in hiding was not even at the school then, so the lesson must have been part of the school curriculum and he was just doing his job. No one complained.

Protesters told MailOnline that the teacher has insulted 2billion Muslims around the world and must be sacked immediately
