Rellen tussen Afrikanen en Zuid-Amerikanen in Milaan

Een groep van ongeveer honderd jongeren van Noord-Afrikaanse komaf heeft zaterdagnacht in Milaan vernielingen aangericht. De relschoppers trokken razend door een wijk waar veel Zuid-Amerikaanse immigranten wonen.

Dat gebeurde nadat elders in de stad een 19-jarige Egyptenaar met messteken was vermoord door een bende van Ecuadoraanse en Peruaanse jongeren.

Wraak
De groep relschoppers trok door de stad, een spoor van vernieling achterlatend. Gekantelde auto's, kapotte winkelruiten en verbrande motoren gaven de stad het uiterlijk van een guerrilla-oorlog. De Afrikaanse jongeren waren op zoek naar Ecuadoraanse en Peruaanse jongeren om wraak te nemen voor de moord.

De politie kon weinig uitrichten tegen de relschoppers. De jongeren verscholen zich in de nauwe zijstraten van de belangrijkste verkeersader van de stad.

De locoburgemeester van Milaan, Riccardo De Corato, heeft de noordoostelijke wijken het Wilde Westen van Noord-Afrikaanse en Zuid-Amerikaanse bendes genoemd.

Een 46-jarige Marokkaanse man werd in de Zuid-Italiaanse stad Andria gearresteerd vanwege mishandeling van zijn 20-jarige dochter en 16-jarige zoon. Hij vond zijn kinderen te ‘westers’. Toen zijn echtgenote de kinderen trachtte te beschermen, sloeg hij haar ook.
De zuster en broer wonen van jongsafaan in Italië. De dochter had zeer tegen de zin van haar vader verkering met een Italiaanse jongen. De zoon werd dagelijks geslagen omdat hij een oorringetje droeg. De politie werd gewaarschuwd toen ijselijke kreten uit de woning waren te horen.
In dezelfde week stond een Marokkaanse vader in Udine terecht die zijn 18-jarige dochter met een mes gestoken had, omdat ze verliefd was op een Italiaanse man.

Terrorism: Italy grants 'political asylum' to jailed imam 27 mei
Rome, 27 May (AKI) - The Italian government has granted political asylum to a former imam of Milan's central mosque who was recently jailed on terrorism charges, unnamed sources in the interior ministry have told Adnkronos. Radical preacher Abu Imad was arrested in April after Italy's top appeals court upheld a previous sentence and jailed him for 44 months.
Egyptian-born Imad was granted asylum 15 days after the Court of Cassation ruling. An earlier request was turned down.

A member of the Muslim community in Italy's Lombardy surrounding Milan, Muhammad Rida al-Badri, said Italian authorities had granted asylum to Imam, who is reportedly close to Egypt's Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, to prevent him being extradited to Egypt as Cairo had requested.
"Abu Imad first asked for political asylum in Italy 17 years ago," said al-Badri.
"He has now been given political asylum because they want to keep him in jail in Italy for several reasons, and one of these is to avoid any criticism from the European Union that he should be handed over to Egypt."

Maar het Hof gaat nog een stapje verder en voegt eraan toe dat de magistraat zich moet afvragen of "racistische" koppels die dergelijke eisen stellen, wel geschikt zijn om een kind te adopteren.

Carlo Giovanardi, voorzitter van de commissie voor internationale adopties, reageerde meteen verheugd op de beslissing, die hij "correct" noemde.

Rellen in migrantencentrum Sardinië

Een militair vliegveld op Sardinië is maandag afgesloten na een relpartij door illegale migranten in een opvangcentrum. Dat meldden de Italiaanse tv-zender RAI en persbureau ANSA. In totaal zijn tien personen opgepakt.

Enkele Algerijnse migranten wisten uit het opvangcentrum te ontsnappen en renden de landingsbaan van het vliegveld op. Ze werden echter alweer snel ingerekend. Het voorval vond plaats in de buurt van Cagliari.

In de afgelopen weken zijn er in het opvangcentrum vaker rellen geweest. Gedetineerden staken daarbij matrassen in brand en vernielden televisies. De migranten zijn over het algemeen Algerijnen die per boot op Sardinië arriveerden en in afwachting zijn van asielprocedures.

Italy is set to become the next European country to ban the burka after a government report ruled in favour of the proposed legislation.

MPs from the anti-immigration Northern League party, a member of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s ruling right wing coalition, have presented the proposal in a Bill.

It comes just weeks after France banned the wearing of burkas and other forms of face veils – a decision which prompted al Qaeda terrorists to vow revenge.

An Interior Ministry report now being considered by the Constitutional Affairs Commission says that if introduced the law should make clear burkas and other face coverings were being banned not for “religious reasons but for security reasons.”

Police arrest 16 Naples terror suspects
Rome, 9 Nov. (AKI) - Police in the southern Italian city of Naples on Tuesday arrested 16 people, mainly North Africans, who are suspected of having links to a terrorist cell. Two Italians were among the suspects, sources told Adnkronos. The suspects allegedly provided logistical support to terrorism by abetting illegal immigration, forging and trafficking false documents and counterfeiting bank notes.
"The organised forging documents that abetted illegal immigration made it highly likely that the suspects helped subversive elements," the source said.
One of the two Italians arrested was 'specialised' in forgery, police said. Most of the arrested North Africans were Algerians, Tunisians and Moroccans, according to police.

The arrests were made during a counter-terrorism operation, code named 'Matmata, carried out by paramilitary Carabinieri police. Police recovered forged driving licences, identity cards and official stamps during raids on dozens of properties.
'Matmata' followed an earlier investigation, 'Full Moon', which uncovered an a Salafite cell with operatives in Italy's northern Lombardy and Veneto regions.
'Full Moon' led to the arrest of three Algerians and their conviction for terrorist offences.

Israeli student attacked by Palestinians in Italy
An Israeli student at the University of Genoa in Italy was harassed and threatened by Palestinian students last Tuesday, only to be ignored by the police.

Assaf, a 26-year-old Israeli architecture student, was eating at the cafeteria when Ibrahim Haji, a student from Gaza, came and began taunting him.
"He came towards me, punched me and said 'why are you looking at me?' I told him I wasn't looking at him, and asked him to let me eat in peace," Assaf said. "A minute later he was back, swinging a fork, and called me in front of everyone to come outside while cursing Israel and declaring his intention to kill.
I understood that I have to avoid this dangerous situation. I told my Italian friends, who were eating with me, that I'm going back to my room so as not to respond to this provocation. On my way out I turned to the cashier and told her, 'Call the police. You heard the man threatening to kill,' and she responded, 'It's not my job to separate Jews and Arabs.'"

'I saw death in front of my eyes'
Assaf's attempt to distance himself from the fight failed. Ibrahim waited for him outside and went for the attack. As Assaf tried to defend himself, Italian passersby stepped in to intervene and held him back. Ibrahim took the opportunity to draw a large kitchen knife. The Italian students tried to stop him.
"I saw death in front of my eyes. I broke free and ran into the storage in the kitchen and locked myself in. After a few minutes more Muslim students arrived and began shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is great) and 'Itbach el Yahud' (slaughter the Jews). Later I understood that there are over 40 angry students there.
The Italians disappeared; they were scared to deal with them. I managed to get myself into the trash facility. I climbed a three-meter wall and jumped. I told myself it's better to break a leg than to get killed."
Assaf said that he went to the police but was ignored, until he turned to the community rabbi and additional Jewish families for assistance. "We filed an official complaint with the police, and they even informed the local investigation agency," said Chaim Amar, a 28-year-old medical student who serves as a security officer at the local synagogue. "Unfortunately, nothing came of it so far."
According to Amar, the police are familiar with Haji from previous violent incidents. It wasn't his first time threatening the life of an Israeli student, and he reportedly harasses female Israeli students regularly. "It's a matter of time before his next violent outburst," Amar said.

Fellow students turned away
For Assaf, life has yet to return to normal. "Only one lone Italian student came up to me and said that he was willing to testify to the police about what happened. All the rest – even the guy who shares my dorm room and witnessed the incident – saw everything but are afraid to be associated in the case. The house mother at the dorms came up to me and said, 'why are to turning to the police? It will ruin his life.' In her opinion, if I'm kicked out of the dorms it would be the best solution."
"We are taking action along with the local authorities to make sure that the Israeli students can continue to study in Genoa safely," a security officer at the Israeli Embassy in Rome responded.

Italian police do not secure university campuses, and have recently drawn criticism for failing prevent fans from sneaking grenades and fire crackers into a stadium during a Serbia-Italy soccer game.

Rome Nov. 24 (AKI) - A government official in industrial northern Italian city of Turin has asked the local school board to stop fully-veiled women from picking up their children at school because it makes it difficult to identify them as the students' true parents.
The request by Maurizio Marrone - a member of prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's conservative People of Liberty party - was prompted after Marrone and other mothers had seen some women dressed in full burqas picking up their children from an elementary school in Turin's Barriera di Milano working class neighbourhood.

"Some mothers with children enrolled in the Albert Sabin elementary school in Turin have seen Islamic women wearing the full burqa picking up their children, and I have seen this as well," Marrone said, adding that the burqa made it impossible for teachers to "verify the identity" of those picking up minors.

Marrone went on to call the wearing of the burqa, the traditional dress of fundamentalist Islamic women, "damaging to the dignity of women." Marrone also claims the burqa "slows down the process of integration" for immigrants.

In September this year, two separate bills were presented in the upper and lower chambers of the Italian parliament which aim to end the wearing of face-covering burqa's in Italy.

Also in September, France voted to ban the burqa. Women there can be fined or jailed if covering their faces in public.

Ik kan me niet druk maken over of het feit dat deze kinderen door een andere boerka mee genomen kunnen worden.
Misschien zielig voor de kinderen als ze ontvoert worden, maar het enige wat deze school moet doen is alle moslim ouders zeggen dat ze een brief moeten tekenen waar in staat dat niemand in een boerka hun kind op mag halen .
Doen ze dat niet, hebben ze geen bezwaar tegen de boerka, dan is de school niet verantwoordelijk als er iets met hun kinderen gebeurd.

ROME — A former Guantanamo detainee, who was transferred to Italy under a deal with the United States, was convicted Monday of criminal association with the aim of terrorism and sentenced to six years in prison, a lawyer said.

Mohamed Ben Riadh Nasri, a Tunisian national, was one of three Guantanamo inmates Italy agreed to accept in 2009 to help United States President Barack Obama close down the prison. Nasri was transferred to Milan in November 2009 and immediately taken into custody.

On Monday, Nasri's attorney, Roberto Novellino, said Judge Stefania Donadeo issued the guilty verdict after a fast-track trial requested by the defendant.

Prosecutors believe Nasri was a member of a terror group with ties to al-Qaida that recruited fighters for Afghanistan. They said he frequented an Islamic centre in Milan in the 1990s which a U.S. Treasury report at the time labeled "the main al-Qaida station house in Europe."

Italian prosecutors said at the time of Nasri's transfer that they believed the Tunisian man travelled from Italy to Afghanistan, where he was captured.

Novellino said he will appeal the verdict.

Also on Monday, Italian police arrested three Moroccans suspected of preparing and spreading online material that could be used to train terrorists.

The three were picked up before dawn in and around Catanzaro in southern Italy, local police said. They are accused of creating and spreading online material to train terrorists, including information on how to use arms and explosives and how to hack into computer systems.

Ik besef ineens dat nergens moslims proberen bescheiden, nederig en onopvallend te doen, of, als ze besluiten/moeten buiten te bidden, dat te doen op een onopvallende, stille, afgezonderde locatie waar ze niemand tot last zijn. Milaan dreigt te veranderen in een ''islamitische stad'' en een ''zigeunerpolis'', belegerd door vreemdelingen van buiten de Europese Unie.
Dat stelde de politiek in het nauw gedreven Italiaanse premier Silvio Berlusconi maandag in een videoboodschap op de website van zijn partij Volk van de Vrijheid.

Berlusconi probeert met zijn xenofobe en islamvijandige boodschap stemmen te trekken in de aanloop naar de tweede ronde van de lokale en regionale verkiezingen. [...]
