This has nothing to do with the money you mentioned in this very poor article . These people got all the flats in new or very good conditions, mostly for free or for really low rents (comparing to normal rents in that area). After few years they turned it them self in this big garbage place because this ethnic group does not respect any social rules and doesn't want to pay any cost. In this situation the city Kosice and also the government is trying to help them, but they expect efforts also from the people living there, resolve this situation. One of the requests was to clean the garbage which is around the houses, as it was created by them when they were just throwing junk out of the windows. How ever the only thing they want is new flats - for free, because they are discriminated. Similar situations happened with this ethnic group in other parts of Slovakia or Europe. After they got their new free houses/flats in 6 months it looked the same.

I didn't get my apartment for my family FREE. They did. The apartments were NEW when they got it. My apartment looks like new still. It's a shame to write article from such a position, evidently not knowing anything about situation or plainly from a bad will. Thinking they are the victim, please take them to a FREE NEW apartments in your neighborhood dear author. And we can meet and speak in a person after a year. I would like to know what you write in your article after that experience. I am disgusted.

I am from Kosice and I am certainly proud of it! Why doesn´t Ms. Edmonds write about plenty of projects implemented by the city in order to improve living conditions in Lunik IX? E.g. the city planned to build new apartments and houses for Roma citizens, however during the building process, the materials and equipment were stolen by Roma people. I can write about many others. Please, don´t judge the city and Slovakia just because of single one-sided article. We are aware of the problem with Roma citizens and believe or not, we try to solve it and integrate them into the society. These pictures are breathtaking, I can´t argue about that, but we need to look deeper into the problem with Roma and consider more aspects rather than be closed minded after reading this article.

This is shame of the city. If you give something to this people they destroy it. Look what they have done with these flats after 2 years. They can´t appreciate nothing, they don´t want to work, children don´t like the schools, they didn´t know anything abount hygiene, because they don´t want !!!! ... they are mashines for destroing and steeling everithing around. We don´t haveany reasom something to change.

I'm an English person living in Kosice and I can tell you that the Roma choose to live in this squalor. They are given perfectly good places to live (for which they don't pay any rent) and in a short space of time they turn the living accomodation into the squalid conditions you show in your pictures.
