Voor het geval dat Muslima nog een keertje terug komt, dit verhaal is speciaal voor haar.
Spoiler! :
I visited Turkey last year. I did not want to visit any Islamic country. This brings horraible memories.
But, in one of the forums a couple of Muslims kept challanging my saying that there is no such animal as secular Muslim country and kept giving Turkey as an example.
I came back and wrote the following essay:
Turkey
I was reluctant to visit any Islamic country. I had more than enough Islam in my life.
But, I keep getting and hearing that Turkey is a secular Islamic country. I am convinced that there is no such thing as SECULAR ISLAMIC.
It depends on how one interprets ‘secular’.
However, I went to see myself, just to be fair.
After 19 days in Turkey and visiting many cities large and small, I was convinced more than ever, THERE IS NO SUCH THINNG AS SCULAR ISLAMIC COUNTRY.
To be truthful, I have to admit that the people are not like the Muslim Arabs, AS YET.
The guide was a Sunni Muslim. She said that she is not practicing Islam, and Turkey is secular country and wanted to remain as such..
Yet, she kept saying that the Turkish Muslims are not like the Arabs.
Well, do they have a different Koran? NO.
She said that 99% of the Turkish population are Muslims.
The Koran and ‘azan’ cited in Arabic. The Turks do not speak or understand Arabic!
There are mosques all over the place. When asked if she has any idea of how many mosques in the city, she said, “I don’t know, but there is a mosque built every day.”
One cannot escape the “azan” calling Muslims to pray, five times a day by loudspeakers directed in all directions, in Arabic!
What I noticed that most mosques are new, I would say about 5-10 years old. New mazanas (towers) have been erected to the old mosques. Traditionally, those towers should be higher than the surrounding buildings. Apparently old mosques had no towers. One can notice the obvious difference the towers and the mosque. The towers are built with extravagance. However, the new mosques, and there are a lot of them, are of course as extravagant if not more so. Turkey is a poor country, one have to ask where do they get the money?
It is obvious that the Saudis are targeting this country at present.
To be honest, generally speaking, the Turks are friendly and clean, so far.
Don‘t forget their eager to join the EU.
The veiled women are not many in the large cities (about 10%), however in the small cities (over 80%).
The trend is clear.
Turkey is trying very hard to give the impression of being secular in order to be admitted full partnership in the EU, but the Islamic pressure pushed in the country by the oil rich Arabs is getting stronger by the day.
The churches, Turkey supposed to be rich in old churches, are almost non-existing.
I tried on my own to find a church. I found one. When knocked at the door a man opened the door slightly. When I asked to visit, he said, “ this is a “military church”, and closed the door. It seems that he was scared.
I found another one. The keeper was a little courageous and opened the church for us (my wife and I). He kept watching us until we left.
The famous Aya Sofiya is a museum now. Most of the Christian painting are covered by HUGE signs showing names of Arab chalifas. Uthman, Hussein, Hasan, Abu Bakr and others, of course Mohammad and Allah as well.
I am convinced more than ever that there is no such thing as SECUALR ISLAMIC COUNTRY.
WE IN THIS COUNTRY MUST DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO AVOID THE INVASION OF THIS HORRIBLE SECT.
