https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/ ... -identity/Watchdog: Police could take action over the sharing of Batley teacher’s identity
THE equality watchdog has said police could take enforcement action over the sharing of a teacher’s identity after they were suspended for showing pupils a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed.
Equality and Human Rights Commission chair Baroness Kishwer Falkner said: “Children’s education should not be disrupted by protests in what has already been a difficult year. The school is taking action and ought to be trusted to do so.
“A teacher’s identity being shared, making them fear for their safety, is simply unacceptable and could result in enforcement action from the police.

Gangs of young men looking for teacher outside home, son is in tears as he thinks he’ll be killed, his mother has left marital home
'My son fears he will be murdered': Father of blasphemy row RE teacher says he can never return to his old life after death threats over Prophet Muhammad lesson - and says school has thrown him under a bus
The father of the RE teacher at the centre of a blasphemy row after allegedly showing students a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad fears says his son fears he will be murdered and will never be able to return to his old life.
The teacher, in his 20s, who is not being named, has gone into hiding with his partner after receiving death threats.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, his father said: 'My son keeps breaking down crying and says that it's all over for him.
'He is worried that he and his family are all going to be killed.
'He knows that he's not going to be able to return to work or live in Batley. It's just going to be too dangerous for him and his family.
'Look what happened to the teacher in France who was killed for doing the same thing. Eventually they will get my son and he knows this. His whole world has been turned upside down. He's devastated and crushed.
'When he starts speaking, he just breaks down and cries. He's become an emotional wreck.
'He feels that everything is broken and to be honest, it's hard to console him at the moment because that is the truth.'
The teacher also criticised Batley Grammar School for its handling of the incident.
In the immediate aftermath, the school suspended him and Headteacher Gary Kibble apologised to parents for the 'inappropriate' use of the cartoons, taken from the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
However, his father fumed: 'The school has thrown my son under a bus. The lesson that he delivered in which the picture of the Prophet Muhammad was shown was part of the curriculum, it had been approved by the school. Other teachers have done exactly the same thing.
'So why is my son being victimised like this? The school should have come out fighting for him and made it clear to the protestors that if offence was caused, then it was not my son's fault. It was the school's policy to show this picture, it wasn't an individual decision made by him.'
He revealed that a CCTV camera had been set up to monitor his son's home after neighbours reported gangs of young men arriving at the property to look for him.
His father said: 'Even if he gets his job back, how can he possibly return to Batley Grammar School? It will be far too risky. And how will he be able to walk around the town with his kids, doing normal things knowing that he could be killed?
'Sadly, his life here in Batley is over and it's very daunting for him to think about starting somewhere else afresh.'
The teacher's mother has also gone into hiding following fears that other members of the family may also be attacked and is currently not staying at her marital home in Batley.
He said: 'My wife is petrified that we'll also be targeted and has become a bag of nerves since all this happened. She's unable to stay in our home. This whole incident has had a devastating impact on us, and we are all scared about the situation we find ourselves in.'
He revealed that a CCTV camera is also being set up at his home and that police officers have also visited to provide advice on how he and his wife can keep themselves safe.
Referring to the protestors that gathered outside Batley Grammar School, he said: 'This issue obviously means a lot to them and I can understand that.
'But the school and my son have issued a full apology, and both have said that they won't allow the same thing to happen again. That should be the end of the matter and my son should be allowed to get on with his life.'
He described his son as a 'stand up' Yorkshireman who had worked hard throughout his life, holding down a job at a local supermarket to help him pay his way through university, where he studied Religious Education.
The father said: 'He balanced studying, bringing up kids and working in a local Tesco and has achieved a lot in his life. I can't really fault him, he's a fantastic son and a role model dad.'
He said that as a youngster his son was a keen amateur rugby player at Dewsbury Celtic Rugby League Club and is also a passionate supporter of Batley Rugby League Club, where he holds a season ticket.
He added: 'He's just a normal Yorkshire lad who loves his rugby and looks after his family. I'm very proud of him and it breaks my heart to see him so broken.'
The incident sent shockwaves around the Yorkshire school last week - but Muslim community leaders have now called on protests to stop.
Community leaders were concerned that with children, having had their education disputed over the past year due to Covid, they faced yet more missed lessons after the school was shut early for the Easter holidays.
A petition in support of him keeping his job has been signed by 64,000 people.
Now, leaders of nearby mosques revealed they have urged people to stay away from the gates after the school said it would carry out a formal investigation.
Snowdon Mosque chairman Akooji Badat said: 'We're working together with the parents and the teacher, and the school have been kind to all the sectors by suspending the teacher so there's no real cause for a peaceful protest outside the school.
'The school has done its job and cooperated well with us.'
Speaking 'on behalf of the Muslim community', one protester said: 'The teachers have breached the position of trust and failed their duty of safeguarding, and this issue must be addressed as a matter of urgency.'
However, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick called reports the teacher was in hiding 'very disturbing' and branded the protests 'not right', adding teachers must be free to 'appropriately show images of the Prophet Mohammed'.
However, Dr Alyaa Ebbiary, a researcher in Islamic studies at the SOAS University of London, disagreed with Mr Jenrick's comments.
'From the majority Muslim community perspective it's safe to say that showing images of the Prophet Muhammad would not be considered a 'right', but at best disrespectful, and at worst a provocation,' she said.
'For some pious Muslims, it's so hurtful to the point of going beyond the realm of common decency - I know that's hard for a Western liberal mindset to understand.
'The matter of depicting a Prophet in images is very problematic in the Islamic tradition, and so creating images, in and of itself, is considered disrespectful to someone held to be sacred.'
West Yorkshire Police said a number of complaints have been made in relation to the incident. Officers attended both protests after dozens of people stood outside the school, partially blocking the road.
A police spokesperson said: 'As might be expected given the high public profile of what has happened, there have been a number of complaints about various matters relating to this issue.
'These are being reviewed in more detail but this is an ongoing situation.'
It comes after MailOnline revealed that the RE teacher reportedly 'defended his right to freedom of speech' in a heated telephone call with the father of a Muslim pupil.
The teacher, who has not been named, is also disclosed as saying 'British values allowed him to present a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad to his class of year nine students as part of their course work'.
The Muslim parent demanded to speak to the teacher after his year 9 son returned from school and reported the matter to him.
When the teacher returned the call he told the father that he had warned his pupils that some would find it offensive, but his aim was to pose a question to his class.
He believed he was 'right' to show the cartoon which has offended Muslims across the world. He wanted to discuss whether the cartoonist was to blame or the terrorists who had committed murder over it in France after the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo had published it.
The angry father said the teacher did not appear apologetic when told that showing the cartoon to his son was offensive and instead was 'arrogant'. The teacher asked the father to voice his concerns to another staff member.
In a group WhatsApp message, shared among Islamic parents and protesters who have demonstrated outside the school and seen by MailOnline, the father said: 'He should have known better.
'I expressed I was not happy with his actions and he had caused offence to the community. He should have known better, after all these images caused international outrage.
'He was not apologetic and was arrogant in his response that what he did was right. He stated that he knew some of the pupils would tell their parents.'

Samuel Paty in Frankrijk

Over 130 imams and Islamic scholars have written to the Prime Minister urging him to condemn the showing of blasphemous cartoons to Muslim children at Batley Grammar School.
In an open letter to Boris Johnson, the imams and scholars say the incident was an attempt to incite hatred and Islamophobia whilst pushing forward extremist white supremacist ideology.
So far three teachers have been suspended over the incident which has led to widespread outrage within the Muslim community. On the other hand, right-wing media, politicians and civil society commentators have supported the actions of the teacher.
The letter was organised by the Muslim Action Forum. Below is the letter and list of signatories in full:

Death threats for head teacher as London school is attacked for being “run by white people”
Police are investigating death threats against the head teacher of Harris Academy Tottenham according to reports from top education news site Schools Week.
An online campaign against the school seemingly started with a petition launched by PE teacher Joshua Adusei, who accused the school of “institutional racism” and demanded the resignation of the new acting principal and head of the academy.
The Harris Federation has called the campaign “misleading, vindictive and vexatious” and claimed that school leaders are “having their wellbeing and safety jeopardised.”
The two central gripes behind the petition are the permanent exclusion of three black students – although the petitioner Adusei does not provide any details about the circumstances surrounding such a severe disciplinary action – and strange claims that the school’s new “zero tolerance behaviour policy” somehow “disproportionately affects BAME and SEN students.”
Adusei was subsequently suspended, with students protesting the action taken against him, and ultimately dismissed by the school, but the head teacher has now faced death threats with the Metropolitan Police confirming that investigations over “malicious communications” have been made.
In one now-deleted comment, the school was slammed for being “run by white people… who don’t understand the children” in racist remarks that are reminiscent of left-wing graffiti daubed near Pimlico Academy – also in the capital.
Students there staged a woke walkout last term over the flying of the union flag and new uniform policies that aimed to stop the disruption of learning, amid a semi-literate vandalism campaign that included slogans like “white schools for brown kids are u mad” and “aint no black in the Union Jack”.
Taken together with the outrageous scenes outside Batley Grammar School in Yorkshire in March, which saw a teacher suspended amid death threats and the protests of an angry Muslim mob, it paints a grim picture for academic freedom and traditional British schooling in the twenty-first century…

The Charity Commission has been asked to look into concerns about how the body running Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif in Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, is managing its affairs
The Charity Commission has been asked to investigate a series of claims made by a whistleblower over financial transparency at one of the city's biggest mosques.
The claims were flagged with the regulator against the Board of Dar UI Uloom Islamia Rizvia (Bralawai) - the charitable organisation that runs Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif in Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath.
A source contacted the charity's regulator to claim there was a lack of transparency about the financial affairs of the mosque, which has assets of more than £9 million and an annual income of more than £500,000. It has not yet filed accounts for 2018-19 or 2019-20.
The charity defended the claims, saying the delay was linked to the pandemic emergency and it was working with the regulator and specialist auditors to resolve the issue.
The claims were understood to be linked to letters and messages seen by Birmingham Live involving one trustee, Mohammed Zahid, who was ousted during an emergency meeting last month after flagging a series of concerns with fellow trustees.
Mr Zahid, in letters and other communications, raised questions about transparency around the charity's finances, as well as concerns about employment contracts and salaries, health and safety and the links between separate commercial funeral companies and the charity.
The charity is currently in default of its financial obligations under Charity Commission rules as it has yet to produce its accounts for 2019 or 2020. It is listed on the regulator website as being in default, with its 2019 accounts now more than 450 days overdue.

“The full message shared with students last week praised our students’ passion for their views and beliefs. It set out how we want to work through the issues highlighted with our students in an informed and respectful way.”
However, the apology did not stop campaigners from picketing the school yesterday afternoon, leaving Jewish pupils at the centre of a political controversy they did nothing to provoke.
The Leeds Jewish Representative Council told the JC their priority at this time was to support Jewish parents and children.
Simon Myerson QC, Chair of LJRC, said: "Every school needs to ensure its pupils are able to appreciate each other's feelings, and comment from outsiders and protests outside a school are unlikely to assist that.
“Our primary concern is to support Jewish parents and their children, and we hope that all adults have our minority students in mind as well as others.”

Head of Leeds school triggers uproar among pro-Palestinian activists after video of his comments goes viral
Protesters demonstrated outside a high school in Leeds yesterday after its headteacher said the Palestinian flag made some Jewish students feel “threatened and unsafe”.
In a two-minute video addressing pupils at Allerton Grange high school, headteacher Mike Roper described the flag as a “call to arms”, which could be seen as “a message of support for antisemitism.”
Mr Roper said: “Some people they see that flag and they feel threatened, they feel unsafe, and they worry because for other people that the flag is seen as a call to arms and seen as a message of support of antisemitism, for being anti-Jewish, and it was never meant to be like that in the first place."
The remark sparked outrage among some pupils and pro-Palestinian activists in Leeds.
On social media, some campaigners accused Mr Roper of being Islamophobic.
One activist, Fatima Said, tweeted: “This is actually wild, complete erasure of Palestine and blatant Islamophobia on display here…”
Mr Roper apologised for his remarks in a letter, which was issued jointly by the school and Leeds City Council.
In the letter Mr Roper says: “I am deeply sorry that a particular example I used in that assembly, referring to the Palestinian flag, has caused such upset within the community. That was never my intention.

A former unaccompanied child refugee who came to the UK at the age of 16 has warned children’s lives “will be put at risk” if the Government presses forward with new immigration laws.
Naqeeb Saide fled Afghanistan as a teenager, entering England alone in a life-threatening fight for safety.
After “crying every night” when he was placed with a foster family and couldn’t make contact with his parents, he is now highlighting the plight of young refugees who could be turned away from the UK – or detained upon arrival.
Kent Council announced it is “profoundly saddened” it will have to detain child migrants in Dover earlier on this week, as a government-supported National Transfer Scheme to find refugees a safe place to stay has been disrupted by a lack of funding and the coronavirus.
The 21-year-old university student and campaigner based in Worthing, Sussex told i: “When I arrived in April 2016, the first few days were really difficult. I cried every night. The only people that I knew were the kids living in the same foster family as me.
“It means a lot to be with your family when you leave your home. It’s difficult being in a country where you don’t know anyone, and you’re not able to speak the language.
“Back home, I had a good life. I was living with my family, my mom was a teacher, and my dad was in the property business. I had a really decent job back home, and when I came to the UK, I lost everything. I lost my home, my job – I had nothing, and started from scratch.
“If there were legal routes to safety, nobody would risk their life to cross the English Channel to come here. Young people will have to either come over without their family, or they will die.”
Campaigners like Mr Saide have questioned plans put forward by the Home Office earlier on this year denying refugees using “unauthorised routes” an automatic right to asylum. Instead they would be reassessed for removal and relocated to safe countries they passed through.
This would mean anyone who crosses into the UK via the English Channel could face immediate expulsion, with priority given to resettlement directly from refugee camps under government programmes.
People who cannot immediately be removed would be offered a temporary status, up to 30 months, with abridged rights and benefits and limited family reunion rights.
Mr Saide, now 21, said: “Under the new proposal that the Government is putting forward, young people will be cut off and be forced to risk their lives to cross the UK to be with their families.
“If there’s less funding and we can’t help every single person, why don’t we give people seeking asylum the right to work. That way they can give back and help themselves, and help the community.”
Enver Solomon, CEO of the Refugee Council and chair of the Refugee Week festival, said: “Over the course of this week, the Home Office used the occasion of Refugee Week to defend its ‘New Plan for Immigration’ which will reduce the level of protection the UK gives to people who take irregular routes to seek safety here.
“This year’s theme ‘We Cannot Walk Alone’ was not intended to be a political campaign about the Government’s radical reforms to the asylum system. However, given that Home Office ministers have referenced Refugee Week in messages making the case for their reforms, we feel compelled to respond.
“For decades the UK has welcomed people fleeing war, terror and persecution regardless of how they have reached our shores who have gone on to make amazing contributions to our communities and national institutions such as the NHS. Now is not the time to turn our back on this great British value of refugee protection that we should all be proud of.”
A Home Office spokesperson said:
“Protecting vulnerable children is a key priority for the Government and in 2019 the UK received more asylum claims from unaccompanied children than any other European country, including Greece and Italy.
“The Government has committed to review safe and legal routes, including family reunion for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in the EU. This is part of the New Plan for Immigration, which will fix the UK’s broken asylum system.”

UK teachers should use 'learners' instead of 'girls' and 'boys', urges taxpayer-funded LGBT organization
The organization Stonewall is also urging schools to give children of both genders the option of wearing both skirts or pants for their school uniform
The British LGBT organization Stonewall, which is heavily funded by UK taxpayers, is urging teachers to stop using the words "boy" and "girl". Instead, they should say “learner”, according to guidelines reported by the Daily Telegraph. In addition, the organization that fights for the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transsexuals is urging schools to give children the option of wearing skirts or pants regardless of their gender.
Stonewall received funding from the government last year for programs against “homophobic, biphobic and transphobic” behavior in schools. Between 2015 and 2019, the organization received almost three million pounds (€3.49 million) in funding from various government sources. In addition, many large companies pay Stonewall money (starting from €2,909) to participate in diversity programs.
Joint physical education classes for boys and girls
The LGBT organization also recommends schools transform to embrace an LGBT ideology and abolish gender norms. Children should, for example, attend the same physical education class regardless of their gender and be able to use changing rooms and showers according to their preferences. Stonewall also advises that elementary school children should learn to name their preferred pronoun. In English, this would be “he/him” or “she/her” or for transgender people “they/them”. Teachers should also teach children to use the pronouns “they/them”.
Stonewall has established a School and College Champion Program of hundreds of schools, which involves participants paying a three-digit amount for this training, which then gives them the right to take part in competitions for particularly LGBT-friendly schools.
The conservative Safe Schools Alliance UK has criticized the recommendation to teach children of both sexes in joint physical education and to let boys compete against girls. It continues to call for separate physical education classes for safety and fairness reasons. In the past, hundreds of female athletes have voiced their concern over biological men participating in sports, but that has done little to keep progressives from working to abolish gender in sports.
Recently, Stonewall caused a stir by demanding that the word “mother” be abandoned for the "person who gave birth to children“.
Ministers criticize the organization
Stonewall was founded in 1989 to lobby for gay and lesbian rights. In recent years, the association has shifted its focus more on transgender issues. This has led to a partial split in the gay and lesbian movement.
Some gays and lesbians find that the organization is neglecting its traditional role and shifting unilaterally to trans-lobbyism.
More recently, several key Johnson administration ministers, including Minister for Women and Equality, Liz Truss, have spoken out against Stonewall. Government agencies should no longer participate in and pay for Stonewall's Diversity Champion program, she said.
The former head of the National Health Service (NHS), Kate Grimes, who had supported Stonewall as a lesbian, recently accused the organization of being "no longer compatible" with NHS values. According to her, Stonewall threatens safety in the NHS by advocating shared changing rooms and showers for men and women, trans men and trans women. In addition, the Stonewall pressure endangers freedom of expression and free debate on these issues.

En hierna komt het huilie huilie verhaal over dit gebeuren:Muslim schoolboy referred to UK Prevent for saying he wants to give 'alms to oppressed'
A Muslim schoolboy was sent to the controversial counter-radicalisation programme Prevent after his teacher allegedly misheard him say "arms" instead of "alms".
The teacher asked the primary school class what they would do if they inherited a large sum of money and the schoolboy said he would give "alms to the oppressed", according to the legal challenge the 11-year-old's parents have lodged against his school.
His teacher allegedly misheard "arms" instead of "alms", and referred him to Prevent.

Sterkte Great Britain... Jullie "gasten" mogen wat kosten.
Up to 50 hotels across Britain benefit from £4billion ten-year contract to house asylum seekers
Casually tapping on their smartphones and smoking in the sunshine, the young men gathered outside the once grand, but now slightly downmarket, hotel appeared carefree and relaxed.
Their untroubled, if somewhat bored, demeanour is perhaps no surprise.
Having successfully reached the UK as asylum seekers, they are now guests of the British taxpayer with free accommodation and a £39.60 weekly spending allowance.
An investigation by The Mail on Sunday can reveal that at least 20 – and perhaps as many as 50 – hotels across Britain are being used to house migrants who have made the perilous crossing on small boats across the English Channel.
The accommodation, which includes four-star rated hotels, is part of a £4billion ten-year contract between the Home Office and various outsourcing companies.
The deal is shrouded in secrecy with Government officials refusing to say precisely how many hotels are being used and how many asylum seekers are staying in them.
In Hull, where these photographs were taken outside the Royal Hotel last week, three local MPs and the council have objected to the city being used to accommodate migrants, saying it was 'totally unsuitable for the vulnerable individuals'.
Hull's imposing railway hotel, which hosted Queen Victoria in 1854 and featured in one of Philip Larkin's early poems, is a short walk to the local shisha lounge and the nearest corner shop.
This is the daily routine for many recently arrived migrants who, having travelled from war-torn states, wait as so-called 'boat-chasing' lawyers seek to convince the UK Government they are genuine refugees fleeing persecution and not economic migrants.
Burly security guards wearing face masks prevent casual visitors setting foot inside the Grade II listed hotel, making it clear that asylum-seekers are the only guests. It is likely that they will be staying on Humberside for some time.
The Home Office boasts of returning 'more than 155' migrants since small boat arrivals began in October 2018 – including 14 to France and Germany last week – but that is just a fraction of the more than 4,500 migrants who have arrived so far this year alone.
The migrants in Hull, who were seen clutching what appeared to be official paperwork, have nowhere to go as they must reside at the hotel and are prevented from seeking employment.
Some loitered listlessly in the lobby and surrounding streets, whiling away the hours until their next meal in the restaurant. Such depressing scenes are being repeated at hotels across the country and come amid a growing political storm over the Government's failure to stamp out illegal immigration.
The numbers of migrants illegally entering the UK has more than doubled in the last eight years, from 20,000 to 48,000, while the National Audit Office recently highlighted a staggering 96 per cent jump in asylum seekers living in initial, short-term, accommodation.
The estimated monthly cost to accommodate each of them has also increased by 28 per cent from £437 to £560.
The Channel crisis may have given Home Secretary Priti Patel a headache, but it has provided much-needed revenue for hoteliers, including the Royal Hotel's owner Alex Langsam.
The businessman, who has been dubbed the Asylum King, has already made millions from Home Office contracts to house refugees in budget hotels such as those in his Britannia chain. He entered the Sunday Times Rich List in 2016 with a personal fortune of £220million.
Since then the company's income has continued to rise. At least eight Britannia hotels are understood to be occupied by migrants. Last night, the company declined to comment.
The Novotel hotel chain is also understood to have also reached lucrative agreements with the Home Office to house migrants.
Last week, large groups of young men of North African appearance were seen strolling around outside the Novotel at Newcastle Airport, which boasts a fitness centre and an indoor heated swimming pool.
Washing was also seen hanging from windows. Best Western and Travelodge have also apparently secured deals to provide lodgings and meals for recently arrived asylum seekers.
A spokesperson for Best Western said it 'did not judge' its guests, rather it 'tries to help them'. Travelodge said it could not disclose information about customers due to the Data Protection Act.
The Home Office last night insisted it was working with French authorities to make the crossChannel route unviable and to crack down on organised criminal gangs facilitating these crossings.
Officials added that hotels are only ever a 'temporary measure' and that migrants will be moved to longer term accommodation when it is possible to do so.
A spokesman said: 'The UK has a statutory obligation to provide destitute asylum seekers with accommodation and support whilst their application for asylum is being considered. Any temporary measures are kept under review and we are working with local authorities across the UK to secure the suitable longer term accommodation that is required.'

Enkele grote veranderingen komen eraan.

UK to introduce draconian punishments for illegal migrants and human smugglers
According to British Home Secretary Priti Patel, the proposal should correct the "dysfunctional asylum
The British government plans to significantly tighten penalties for migrants illegally crossing the English Channel between the United Kingdom and France. Under the new legislation, they could face up to four years in prison. According to the British head of the interior, Priti Patel, who specified the proposal over the weekend, it is an attempt to discourage migrants from illegal crossings and, above all, to correct the "dysfunctional asylum system".
The move by Boris Johnson's conservative government is part of an asylum reform coming to parliament on Tuesday. According to the reform, a punishment of up to four years in prison for illegal migrants is also planned. So far, the maximum period of incarceration has been six months. People smugglers would now face up to life imprisonment, while until this point they could be sentenced for up to fourteen years.
The government presented its plans to tighten the asylum system last year in March. According to Patel's current statement, the new legislation will be "fair but strict." It aims to discourage illegal migration and above all to treat asylum seekers differently, depending on whether they arrived in the country legally or not.
"Instead of peddling deliberately misleading myths and untruths about asylum and migration, the Home Office should be establishing safe routes for those few people escaping persecution who wish to seek asylum here," Amnesty International UK's Refugee and Migrant Rights Director Steve Valdez-Symonds commented on the government's plan.
Since the beginning of 2021, a record number of more than 6,000 migrants has crossed the English Channel. The total number recorded in 2020 reached slightly over 8,000 and could thus be exceeded in the next two months.
